A Rush of Blood to the Head

This literally hasn't left my player since it arrived at the start of the week!

Chris Martin once said in an interview that he started Coldplay with the intention of them becoming the greatest ever band. Pretty arrogant and highly ambitious, but they seem well on the way to reaching their ambition with their two releases so far...

This album is quite simply another great release from Coldplay. Not as good as Parachutes, but close!

"In My Place" remains my favourite track from the album, but all the other tracks are strong too. From the twangy guitars of "God put a smile upon your face" and "Green Eyes" to the piano-leaden "The Scientist" and the string-heavy "Warniing Sign", this album just wreaks of sheer quality and musical craftsmanship. "Amsterdam" is a particularly beautiful and mellow finish to the album.

The boys' Pink Floyd and Radiohead influences are strong throughout all of the tracks on the album and much of the percussion reminds me of Beck, while the pianos would not feel out of place on an Embrace CD.

Can't wait for Coldplay's next one!

Highly recommended!

I've had it in my player for the last four weeks!!!! :D
And then I still went out and got it from Sainsburys b4 u say anything!!!

Thought you might be interested in this? A little treat....

"Coldplay - In My Place - Live from Glastonbury" Realvideo!!!

Requires at least the Realplayer 8 or the new RealOne player, because of the codecs I used.

Enter the following url in the player to stream it, or you can download the complete file (Right-click, save target as):

http://members.lycos.co.uk/ajhazell/Coldplay-In-My-Place-(Live).rm (6.3Mb)

Hope you like it.

Saw the whole Glastonbury thing on BBC Choice, but thanks for the link. :)

Nothing wrong with downloading music and then purchasing it in my book. I used to do it all the time - it was a great way to "try before I buy" and also let me explore new artists. I spent significantly more money on CDs as a result than I ever would have. Shame the record companies are too bound up with copyright issues to realise this.

I have the whole Glastonbury set in MPEG2, but it's not the sort of thing you can share that easily!!

The Radio 1 set last night was rather good but Chris does tend to rattle on a bit between tracks and sometimes even stops during an intro to say something else!!

Still, onwards and upwards though I hope.

He played a verse and a chorus of Ash's Shining Light on the piano last night which was rather good. I'm might fish it out now in fact!

ps. If you come across Richard Ashcroft's Human Condition or Paul Weller's Illumination(s?) on your travels be sure to let me know! I don't think they've been leaked just yet.

Excellent album, a little more mature than Parachutes IMHO, and Im very impressed in line for one of the albums of 2002 IMO.

Squirrel God,

While I'm sure that many people enjoy the safe sounding, user friendly, no risk, non threatening , highly produced sound of Coldplay, do you think if you took their guitarist and drummer and put them on a stage that they could manage to get the same range of expression and feeling that the White Stripes manage to get out a single guitar ?

They could manage more feeling and expression from a single E string than the White Stripes could with a whole orchestra.

That was my first attempt at a wind up, but it didn't work quite as well as expected. Not subtle enough I suppose.

Must try harder next time..

Post a wind up and you'll get a wind up reply. Obviously mine didn't work either (even if the essence of what I said is true) :p

Love the G string joke btw Gambit :D
