Just a quick q'n... Am I right in thinking that channels such as Discovery sometimes broadcast the programme (EXCLUDING the annoying logo) in 14:9 or 16:9 and I should set my w/s tv to that? Seems to work..and even get's rid of most of the logo.

16:9 mode on the television is meant for anamorphic widescreen transmissions. It is not meant for non-anamorphic letterboxed programmes.

It will depend on the model of your tv as to which mode you should have the tv when viewing letterboxed programmes. If your tv has a 14:9 mode, this is useful for UK Drama, UK Gold and Discovery etc. There is probably another mode (called Cinema on Toshiba sets) which is designed for non-anamorphic widescreen which zooms in but keeps the aspect ratio correct.
