The FQ75 (the forerunner to the 80) IS switchable, and I understand this facility is available on the 80.

Yes it is switchable and I can also confirm that I've never noticed any problems leaving it as 100Mhz for any sport.

I think it should be clarified that the 50Hz mode in the FQ series is a DRC mode - i.e. 'line doubling' - and not a pure 50Hz mode. There isn't one on these sets at all.

I'm personally not a fan of DRC 50 for PAL pictures, but that's a matter of taste. If you're looking for a natural, or processing-free, mode, there is a bare-bones 100Hz mode on the FQ75 (i.e. no DRC). It's very good. As I've said before, Sony 100Hz technology is one of the best.

I'd suggest you look at the set in-store, and ask for a demonstration of the various picture modes - there are three - 'basic' 100Hz, DRC 50 & DRC 100 (the default setting - gives the most stable picture with no perceivable added resolution - this is best for PAL DVD's, IMHO).

    Hi,

I have the FQ80 and also did have the FQ75.

The modes on both sets are the same.

I have watched football on the FQ80 and find that the picture
is fine and also have found its better then most 100hz sets that
I have done this test on.

I tried the 50hz and found it flickerd to much for me but the
normal 100hz mode was better but of course the full DRC 100
was the best mode to watch football in so enjoy..
