Last shown December 2006 (from what I can ascertain from this forum), A History of Violence is being repeated on Sunday 10pm SMHD2.

No spoilers please as I've not seen it before.

It'll be recorded whilst I watch Dexter.

EDIT - Thread title incorrect, should say SMHD2 - sorry.

Actually, its about the 6th time this film as been on in hd in about as many months. However, its a fairly good movie if you haven't seen it, so, happy viewing.

Ok as a new customer I didn't know that.

Maybe I should have said it hasn't been talked about on here since December 2006 (which is strange as it's had excellent reviews).

Just trying to help.

Indeed, personal tastes accounts for a lot although if reasons are given (avoiding spoilers) then at least there is some thought behind the warning:)

I liked the movie although the first half is a more compelling and tightly woven story than the second half which loses some if it's intensity and becomes a rather generic action piece.
It's certainly not a movie I would tell someone to avoid at all costs, there are those movies but this is far from it:)

Just checked the metacritic reviews and I am shocked at the high scores!

I know it is all opinion but I watched it with my girlfriend and we thought it looked good from the trailer - it started off ok and then went rapidly downhill into predictability and we both thought the acting was poor.

But heyho what do I know? I loved AvP and Texas ChainSaw Massacre - The Beginning:clap::clap:!!!!!

Will look forward to your opinion of it!

It is a matter of opinion and guess what my thoughts will prove just that in that they are almost completely contrasting to yours ;)

Whereas you preferred the start of the film, I thought it became much better with more tension between the characters after 55 mins or so.

In my opinion, the first 55 mins were unecessarily slow character development, which is a huge chunk in a film thats only just over 1 and a half hours long.

One thing we do agree on though was that it was not outstanding. I too am surprised at the critical acclaim as it was a fairly routine format thriller.

I guess the graphic nature of the violence appealed to the critics and whilst I think it's good to show realism in such movies and applaud that, it doesn't elevate the movie in status.

In summary, it was alright, glad I watched it, if only to see what all the fuss was about.
