This album has grown on me to the point that it is all I am listening to at present, along with 'Master of Puppets' by Metallica. I hated it when I first heard it  Sounded so unsubtle and stacato. 'Original Pirate Material' was fantastic on first listen. However, 'AGDCFF' may just well be the superior album. Such a range of emotions. I still rate Skinner as the greatest musical/lyrical genious of this era. His arrangements are so intelligent. I cannot rate this album highly enough

This is getting silly. I think someone should seriously consider whether Gorshin's posts are considered spam. This is the third thread you've opened telling us how wonderful this group is. There are more than 7 posts with you ranting on about how good they are.

Move on man. You've said it all b4.

It really is pretty disgusting how much you plug this album though, Gorsh! No offence, but there are plenty of other good albums out there. You've told us how great it is, now move on...... :D

I own the album and have enjoyed it for ages, however have you actually LISTENED to Skinners lyrics? The man talks a load of poop half the time  Example, an envelope stuffed with cash falls down the back of the tv, through the case??? It causes a fault similar to a blown power supply??? and I could go on and on  Pirate material is full of them as well.

The man makes enjoyable tunes but thats as far as it goes

You can't say stuff like that :nono: You'll have Gorshin offending your family and friends in no time... The man is a genious haven't you been listening. :lesson:

Sorry. Don't mean to poke fun. But I would feel more sympathy if you were being passionate about Bob Dylan and not Eric Bristow :rotfl:

    The Streets are terrible.

Speaking as a musician the music he creates is childish and basic at best. There is very little variation within the songs and frankly secondary school (high school) GCSE Music drop outs have produced better 'beats'.

"The lyrics are so clever" I don't care, even if they are clever... Skinner could read this centuries best literrary works and make it sound pretentious, poorly thought out, arrogant and ugly. The man has a horrible horrible, annoying voice.

The Streets' whole musical carrer is based around Park Life by Blur and nothing that they have ever done comes anywhere near close to Park Life.

    Listen to something... well... better.

    Ditto! :D

What is it with Groshin and the "Streets"? It's just rehashed blur & madness mixed together in the most boring fashion imaginable!

Yeah, we were all teenagers once, but back then I liked stuff that was either a) fun or b) LOUD! :smashin: The Streets are neither.

I must admit to quite likeing "Dry your eyes mate" but would not say it was any better than an avaerge poem put to a beat.

What a load of **** Skinner is an innovator. There's nothing to match his originality and genious. What the hell has Parklife got to do with anything? Also he is the greatest lyricist of his generation, telling it like it is. Also, Parklife is hardly an album with great appeal now

If the music he creates is so simplistic then why no immitators???? Again, proof that he is a genious. People know they can't compete. Remember AGDCFF got a 5 star review in Q and 9/10 in the nme. So, the critics really dug it :hiya:

its just a thought, but there might not be any imitaters because everone else thinks its not very good,
Just a thought you understand, I am not trying to knock your taste in music. Like i said I quite like one of the streets tracks but I dont think I would go out and buy it as a must have piece of music, still thats the beauty of the human beast is it not, every one has different tastes.

I have extemely diverse tastes, from Joy Division to The Kinks to The cocteau Twins, but I firmly believe The Streets is true soul music for the current age. I have OPM and AGDCFF on constant repeat at the moment, along with Master of Puppets. Isn't it odd how 1 album is all you listen to for weeks on end? Even though I have about 1300 albums? Could be the Pet Shop Boys next, who knows?

The only other concept album that matches Mike Skinner's A Grand Don't Come For Free in my opinion is KLFs Chill Out. I love this album and the one before it too and can't wait for Skinner's next offering. :)

No offense Gorshin, and each to his own, but so what? Q and NME are long on BS and short on credibility when it comes to reviews. I stopped buying Q after it became obvious that certain artists and genres will always get five stars, while others can produce a classic and get panned. Ditto NME.

After every MJ album Q reviewed got 5 stars (no matter how dire) it sort of made me wonder........ is it the size of his wallet, or is it his music being reviewed? ;) Skinner falls into that quirky 'SOP' bracket that also always guarantees 5 stars.
