Everything is running nicely on my Samsung PS42V4, however i have a question. Im running my DVD through S-video, along with my PS2 and X-box.

Im running Sky through a normal bog standard Scart lead, which came with a TV i had last year. The Picture is ok, but i was wondering will i see much improvement in going and buying a £50 scart lead.

I dont wanna spend that kinda money on a lead if i dont see any difference. What ya say??

    Cheers

If you've just spent £2k on a plasma tv, then £50 for a good scart lead doesn't seem unreasonable. The quick answer to your question is yes it will make a noticeable difference. You probably don't even have to spend £50, you can get a good Thor scart-scart with gold connectors for about £25.

Oh no i dont think its unreasonable, i just wanted to know if there would be any noticeable difference thats all.

I would of been a tad upset if i couldnt see any difference, £50 buys a lot of beer lol!

    Thanks for your help!

I'm sure that after you'd drunk £50 of beer the PQ would be fine too

hey guys been reading about whether you shud take the plunge and go buy a decent lead, well id say go for it. You will notice a huge difference on something like sky as the writing tends to fizz heavily on the programe guide. I got myself a THX monster cable and it seems to clear more than everything up.
Good luck dude but ask for demos before you buy that will shock the sales guy then

my skytronic scart cost 99p at the supermarket
perfect PQ on my panny, no fizz, no reflections (double image)
as good as any lead you waste £50 on.
(fizz only occures on composite signals by the way)

PS I'm reliably informed the picture is far better if you use
gold screws to fix the wall bracket to the wall and use a
platinum screwdriver to screw them in.

im gunna disagree with the sarcastic omments made about the gold screws and platinum screw driver altho was quite funny. I suggest you try different leads and see what you really think. you may think that the £50 you was going to spend isnt worth it when you see but on the other hand you may notice the difference and think i'll go for that.

On certain sources agood scart can do wonders for PQ on others nowt....... But remember if you own a £1000 Scart the sockets it connects to likely cost £0.05 so be reasonable... Although a good quality cable in a nice sheath always looks smart and if you have to see them make em pretty....

I bought a 50pound scart lead and it did not seem to
improve the picture at all when watching sky plus.

I think sky plus uses too much compression to be watched on a 42 inch pe 30 plasm.

However it did seem to make movies on dvd look better!

    weird or what....

some channels on sky and freeview are so highly compressed as you say that they will look bad no matter what cables you use. they are best viewed on a 14in portable
they really need to improve the digital picture quality

If we are going to talk about this lets take it a step further and talk about every step of the process.

My plasma is plugged into a dedicated HiFi main - nothing but hifi components so you don't get any of the potential power degradation when the fridge starts up etc. All sockets are MK unswitched sockets as the switches themselves aren't going to do you any favours. All the power leads to all components are dedicated (supra) hifi power leads with heavy duty black MK plugs and Wattgate IEC connections. The plasma is currently connected to the mains using a Nordost Eldorado Power Lead (£419).

And you thought buying a decent scart lead was bad :clown:

Oh and the Plasma will look a lot better late at night (and not just because it's dark) when everyone else around stops using all the power and you get the true power input from the electricity company.

Bring it on Mr Clark :hiya:

I have my own windmill generating clean green power
and it certainly improves my picture quality. It was a bargain at £235,000
and you can really see the difference. Only drawback is I can only
watch my plasma on windy days.

Excellent, i have just connected myself to the local nuclear station which has helped with the picture quality like you wouldnt believe.

I have also gone round all the local street lights and smashed them so there isnt so much light been generated at night.

Luckily the neighbours in the street have agreed to go to bed early and switch off all there electricity so i can see the true quality of my Plasma.

Finally i can relax infront of my TV with a nice cold beer. Tomorrow though im going for my eyes tested just to make sure im getting the most of my plasma screen. How silly of me to ask for a opinion on RGB scarts when this was all i needed to solve the problem! lol

Mr Pudding, your fridge will clearly be interfering with the picture, I suggest you change to red wine.
