oh yeh its another one, what headphones should i get? i know how much you all love these threads

anyways could you help me out im looking for headphones meeting the following critera:

    -between £10-40
    -NOT canal style
    -in ear
-good sound, a nice bass sound would be good but im looking for overall rather than just bass
-reasonably robust, im not going to try and damage them but i dont want to have to carefully wrap them up every time i go into a lecture!
-not white, i have a real deep down hatred of white headphones, probably spawned from a deep down hatred of certain other white electronic items.

    so any reccomendations?

as always thanks for any replies

For £10 or so, you could get the griffin technology ear cups or whatever they're called - fit over the iPod earphones to sit in the ear and enhance the bass.
Alternatively, for £30 ish, you could just opt for the Sony EX81's from Amazon.
Spend a bit more, and you could have the Shure E2cs - a marked improvement over both the above options.
Check here for some reviews of various ones at equally various prices.

well thanks for the reply but none of those were what i asked about.

the griffins work on ipods i have a hd3 and they are over ear not in ear

    the ex-81's are canal phones

    the e2cs are canal too.

    thanks anyway though

I have the Sony EX71s. Which are the same as the 81s but without the ear holds. However they fit into the cannel!- So not much use.

They do sound great, i must say that all of the best phones seem to always fit into the cannel.

I have heard some good reports on the Philips SBCHE590......they look like they are part between cannel and normal, much more near to normal though. So still might not be what your looking for.------ you'll see them in white, but i think they are also done in other colours.

Sennheiser MX500 or MX550 - £15 roughly. Great sound like my Sony EX71's - just none of the Sony exaggerated bass. Plus they seem sturdy - the EX71's are notorius for driver failure - I'm on my 2nd pair :)

thanks for those reccomendations, ill definatly have a look at those philips and sennheiser ones, i tried the sony ex-71s and i just found them really really irritating in my ear, i ended up selling them just because i couldnt wear them because of their shape.

Well, you never specified what you had - given the iPod is the dominant MP3 player in the market, more chance of that being the one you own.
The Griffins are clip ons to imitate (to a degree) the in-earphones.
Your use of canal and in-ear is confusing - in-ear is exactly that, in-ear. What you are looking for is earbud type.
Now that we know that's the cas, then I would imageine that the Sennheisers would do the trick. JVC have some out or coming out soon - Gumys I think they're called, and available in various "flavours".
Audio Technica do some, earbud variety also - the only one I'm aware of though is the $179 (IIRC) aluminium ones, rather than plastic.
You could always give google a try to see what else gets turned up.

Get the Sennheiser mx500, no question.
I've had them for 2 years, used all the time on 12 hour shift work in factory at high volume levels, with a Sony minidisk player.
Then i just wind them round player when finished and thrown in bag.
Quality, indestructable and reasonable price. Sorted!

    sennheisers definately.

They are robust and the sound is fantastic!.

Its worth noting that you can save a fiver if you can live without the volume control on the cable as you can buy mx400 which is exactly the same headphone without the volume unit on the cable.

mx400s are 14.99 and also come in short wire variety for use with an in line remote if u have one.

    mx500 20.00 i think.

The sound has a nice listenable feel to it sound more expensive than they are. bass is tighter more controlled than sony phones, treble is more tamed also. midrange acceptable but at this price very good.

of course you can use your eq to adjust slightly to taste.
i bought these phones yesterday and binned my ex71s!!!

Evertonian born & living in Manchester, so i'm obliged to hate both of you hahahahahaha :).....

.... altho being a mancunian i do, of course, hate ManU far far more than anything else in the world, so hating the Red Sh**es from the other side of Stanley Park would strictly speaking have to come second on the list :).

Fortunately, this situation will only exist for a couple more seasons, till Glazers debt mountain sends Manure into recievership, then i can concentrate fully on hating Liverpool as a priority :)...

Yeh, go for Sennheiser MX400 or MX500. Both are excellent phones for the price.

hmmmm my sennheisers (mx500) just arrived and i can honestly say i hate them, i find the stock sony ones far far better quality, less muffles, less overbearing bass, and far far far (i cant stress this enough) comfortable, i cant see why everyone says the sennheisers are great!

    lol yeh true.

been trying em out a bit more, and fiddling with the equaliser on my hd3, they are a bit better than i first though, prehaps marginaly ousting the sony ones but not by as much as i expected.
