Our good friends invited me to take a few pictures at their wedding, here are a few of my favourites. Only processing is cropping and greyscaling with Gimp. On a few of the pics I did set the ISO high as I was after that grainy effect when I converted them to B&W! C&C please: -

I have to say . I like the framing and composition of quite a few but hope you took them RAW if so they have a lot of potential for exposure correction ect)
Also i would suggest that the diagonal shots be kept to a bare minimum.
Im not a fan of them and they can make a decent shot look rather " snap shot like"
You can create them from regular shots by careful cropping if you wish later

In short .
Nice collection>> with some subtle PP good can become.. Very eycatching

You may need to wean yourself of GIMP and get software that will allow you get better from the 450D especially starting with RAW

DPP ( Digital Photo Professinal) comes with the 450D and is excellent for RAW processing
It is free and is on that CD in your 450s box..:D
Adobe Photoshop Elements is on ver 7 Ver 6( or even 5) can probably be got for peanuts and is excellent
but
Back to the Pictures
You did well..:hiya:.. just keep the camera horizontal , vertical and shoot RAW

deffo overexposure going on in the first few , and as above , keep the camera horizontal or vertical :)

Thanks for the comments guys. A couple of things.

I am still very much a noob, and (unfortunately) I am still shooting in RAW.

I have very little experience with both photography, and certainly processing, but do like it, and even with my limited knowledge get lots of satisfaction as well.

One of the main reasons I have shot a few at angles, is that sometimes I struggle getting the horizon straight, and it's been picked up by a few people before. But I am guessing a slightly off horizon is better than lots of images at funny angles?

Thanks again for the feedback.

The horizons don't work for me so try to keep those straight. And definitely watch your exposures.

Most post processing software has the ability to straighten horizons so you don't have to be spirit level bang on. I found myself a bit squiffy on occasions and try and use the horizontal AF points to line things up.

keep shooting raw , much more opportunity for correction then :)

Great start and a nice set but I agree with above comments..

The angle shot's are a little anoying but as some guy's have already said, simply straighten the horizon's with photo editing software..

I really like 7 and 9.

In 9 the way that she is in focus and the people behind really works for me. Would of loved to see the bouqet as well though.

I agree with the above comments though, but all in all some very good shots.

Thanks for all the feedback. I can't learn without knowing what I am doing wrong, so here are a few more to have a look at / C&C: -

A much better set :smashin:
The Iron is actually barely noticable and is infact part of the scene, if the truth be told
# 5 would look better cropped, and the couple moved off dead centre

Ah! I cropped this to get them in the middle of the picture! Is something like this better: -

Should I just lose the stone at the top of the door??? Personally think the B&W works better than the colour here as again I think I over exposed (the sun was very bright lol!!!!).

Yes although you could equally also crop to get them to the right to good effect
You are right in thinking the stone on top is not doing much for the image
Cropping it doesn't mean it has to be a square and.. yes the B/W version works a bit better
I wonder if vignetting woud help
Do you mind if I have a go sometime later?. Im no expert but it would just be another version which would be easier seen than described

Senu - I would love for you, or anyone for that matter to have a play with the images above to improve on them.

No worries Ill give it a go but Im sure a lot of cleverer folk on here wi do an even better job
However just to reiterate all in that second set are decent;)

I'm sure someone could "lose" that iron out of the photo you mentioned. I know i spent ages going thru my photos removing empty wine glasses and ashtrays out of them. PS is a wonderful tool for compensating my ability.

I would echo the earlier comments re angles. I would also suggest you look at colour splash (if you don't have PS) and this will let you say leave the bouquet in colour with the rest in B&W - makes one shot in 100 look great. Don't overuse it though because then it turns naff!

Nice pics, hope you enjoyed it.

Hi! I had a trial copy of PS, and thanks to a very useful thread on here, was able to easily leave colour in B&W pictures (check out my av, that is my real eye colour!!!!) but like you said, can be a little OTT in some instances.

Not tried it with this set, as I don't know how to do it with Gimp, but am also going to look at getting a copy of PS Elements (a basic version of PS I guess?).
