    Hi guys,

got a few questions about HD5 that i was hoping you guys could help me.

    1. how long does it take to upload a song encoded in mp3 format?

    2. how long is the battery life of the unit if all songs on it are exclusively in mp3 format?

    3. how easy is it to navigate through the collection of songs on the unit? i am currenly using an ipod, and it is a breeze to scroll through all the songs.

    4. for those that have seen all the colours in real life, which one is the best looking one? i am leaning towards the black one atm.

    that's all thanks!

    David

    1. Roughly a second or two more per song than the iPod.
    2. Never done a controlled battery test, but I'd say half to 60% of the claimed battery life depending on your bitrates.
    3. Get ready for a downgrade. Buy the scrolling remote though, and I find it quite handy over the iPod as far as ad hoc navigation is concerned.
    4. I'm a traditionalist. Silver works best for me, although red is a standout. Black is so iRiver ;)

I'd say that it's a lot easier to scroll than on the iPod. Just hold the buttons. That has the advantage of you being able to move up or down in ones so you know exactly what you're selecting. The HD5 also has the added advantage of "Initial Search" which makes it easier to find a track.

Clearly not used an iPod for any length of time.

I use the MC40 remote. It's bulbous, but the one worth getting IMO. The 35 is too fiddly for more than basic navigation.

I owned an iPod 4G from December through to last week. It just wasn't for me.

How did you work that one out? It takes me about 1 second to transfer a song to my HD3, so I would like to know how that could be a second or two slower than the iPod  .

surely the transfer rate depends as much on what pc you use and the setup as the player?

Some time ago (when the HD3 was released) I timed it. The delay (if any) will depend on the speed of your PC (at that time a 2Ghz P4) and also the size of the file. But given the same conditions, the transfer speed is slightly slower than the iPod.

Do you know when it's released there? And how about the US and Canada - it's not out there  - and I have a few people over there really eager to try this out.

If you mean can you just drop MP3s onto the hard disk, then no, it needs to be dragged'n'dropped into SonicStage.

Got mine yesterday, i'm VERY pleased, finally sorted out Sonic stage (no longer crashes every 10 secs) like people have said, the Ipod wins on ease of use but in my opinion the HD5 outperforms in all other areas, sounds too quiet out of the box but as with HD3 you can remove the limiter.

Silver or Red, i went for silver although it was a hard decision (that eventually i left to my girlfriend) hehe

    Cheers man, much appreciated.

Also, does atrac format sound better than MP3? :S Something to do with being able to use the equalizers more?
