    Hello,

I just wondered if anybody has listened to the new AFI album "Sing the Sorrow"???

I had it for a while now, and I really can't stop, it is REALLY very good!

I bought the previous album "Art of Drowning", a few years ago, and apart from the excellent track "Days of the Phoenix", I was not overly impressed. However this album is leagues ahead of there previous offerings, and I really do recommend people to check it out.

Stand out tracks for me are Track 6 (Girl's not Grey) & Track 10 (This Celluloid Dream).

I can't really describe who they sound like, however there are bits of the album that remind me of "Bad Religion" and "Good Riddance".

They are headlining the Second stage of the Reading\Leeds festival this year, so it gives me a great alternative to Blur!!!!

Can't wait to check out the live show!!!!

perrdl, on your glowing recommendation I got this album from CD-Wow this week as it was only £6.99, an absolute bargin. It is a very good album with some very catchy punk/rock songs on it. They do have a very unique sound, to me their songs sound very punky but have very good sing-a-long choruses which you do not usually find in punk songs. There are a couple of nothing songs on the album but overall it is very good with my favourtie song's being But Home is Nowhere and This Celluloid Dream

So thanks for the heads up a very worth while purchase :smashin:

That's quite a few, most bands struggle to fill 12 tracks.

They are a good band but you might want to check out The Misfits and Danzig.

AFI's old logo was based on The Misfits logo, their image is based on The Misfits image, Davey Havoc from AFI has admitted that they wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for The Misfits.

And, if you like AFI's style of backing vocals...

BTW, they're playing London (Forum) 6 June and Manchester (Manchester Academy) 7 June if you're interested.

Mind you, The Misfits never came up with an album title as cool as 'Answer That and Stay Fashionable'.

I think I read somewhere that Metallica admitted pretty much the same thing.

They take a LOT of their influence from The Misfits.

True, although it's not as obvious in their music - unlike AFI, it would seem Metallica were more into 'Earth AD' era Misfits, which was a more speed/thrash metal sound than their earlier stuff.

Cliff Burton quite famously had The Misfits 'Crimson Ghost' logo tattooed on his upper arm. Metallica also covered 'Last Caress' and 'Green Hell' on the Garage Days EP. There's also a well worn bootleg of Glenn Danzig doing those tunes with them live on the Justice For All tour.

BTW, The Misfits (albeit in their '25th Anniversary' guise) are playing the UK next week. He's an old chancer, but there's something very cool, almost mythical about Jerry Only - the last person to see Sid Vicious alive apparently.

They are playing near me, and I really would like to go.

Now I just have to find somebody to go with!!!

I Listened to Famous Monsters the other day, and it really is a great album. Although it's the only one of theirs that I own.

Where are they playing near you? Cardiff? I'm going to that.

Famous Monsters is such an overlooked album, 'Saturday Night' is an amazing track. You'd like American Psycho without a doubt.

Althought the sound quality on their early stuff is utterly abysmal, I would recommend you check out either Collection II or Legacy of Brutality (both compilations).

Failing that, you really should get hold of Walk Among Us, so many good tunes on there, including three of my favourite tune of their's, 20 Eyes, Night of the Living Dead and Astro Zombies.

Damn, I'm going to dig out an album and put it on...

Had a quick listen to both these bands, I like the Misfits they are a bit like Black Flag. AFI are OK, just lack a bit of energy IMO.

Might have to get some Misfits:smashin:
