    A Dreaded Amstrad
However, I have hooked it up to my Tosh 46WM48 (RGB scart) and can't see a thing wrong with it. Certainly better than my ntl cable receivers.

It's an Amstrad DRX180! Mean anything to anyone?

All those who have had problems, were they evident from the start or did they develop over time? What should I be looking out for next?

The DRX180 is the model number for their version of SKY+, however there are a number of hardware revisions that are covered by that model number (PACE do the same thing).
There is/has been a faulty batch or production run which has resulted in the banding issues reported by some (software fix expected), earlier models and I suspect future revisions did not and will not suffer with the same problems.

Worth remembering that PACE went through exactly the same issues with their "soft focus" problems which affected a batch of their SKY+, it to took quite a while for a software patch to be written, tested and deployed.
