Is there anybody clued up on climate control systems ? Mine will blow nice cold air for approx 5 minutes then seems to switch off blowing warm air from outside.I do have it booked in for a re-gas but wondered if anyone had encountered the same thing.Cheers.

Sounds like a re-gas, had mine done yesterday what a difference. They will put a dye in with the gas to check for leaks incase that is the cause.

If it's a proper climate control system are you sure it hasn't just lowered the temperature in the car to whatever you've set it to, and is blowing warmer air to stop it from getting any colder?

Update, took it to be re-gassed today and the guy couldnt get the a/c to operate in order to change the gas.He suggested i change the pollen filter to aid air flow.I did this and still no good.He confirmed there is gas in the system.

It's been a while since I worked for a car air conditioning parts company but here goes ...

As it works to begin with then I would say the system is ok with gas etc.

Possible causes are -

Sticky interior thermostat not registering temperature correctly. If you have climate control try setting it to the very lowest or 'Always on' setting.

Failing compressor clutch. The clutch on the A/C compressor may be failing to engage properly.

You need to take it to a specialist who knows what they're doing. Suggesting changing the pollen filter does not suggest someone who knows what they're doing

What you can do yourself - Start the car from cold with the bonnet open and the climate control off. Locate the compressor (follow the fan belt :D ) and have someone switch on the climate control. You should see and hear the compressor clutch engage. Keep watching to see if it stays on or if it slips.

My moneys on the interior thermostat being a bit flaky ....

Hope this helps.

BTW>> There's a lot of 'Experts' in air con where 'con' is the right word :D Most simply 'top up' the gas with what ever gas they have. The gas/oil mix is critical for long term health of air con, don't be tempted to skip on this as the cost of a replacement compressor is £££££
Each type of gas, which used to be R12 (old) and R22? and various others each need the specific oil to go with it. The oil is carried with the gas in suspension which lubricates the seals, and critically, the compressor. Even air in the system (which is why it should be vacuumed before refilling) carries moisture which is bad ....

I had a leaking condenser - which I replaced.

While it was out I found a broken wire on a sensor on an air con pipe.

So look for broken wires on the system!

What car is it?

mk3 mondeo, got an engineer coming to have a look next week. Its a strange because it always comes on ok from a cold start, last about 5 minutes then blows warm air.I will post results asap.

Mine was well stuffed - gas leak and pressure sensor disconnected, however your car is newer (mine is N Reg Omega) so I would not expect rotted through thin wires.

However most air con people always assume regas will do - mine went for a week on a regas then worked intermittantly.

As long as it works from work to home [which it does at the mo] i am happy ish.

I could not quite do Inkberrow in 5 minutes - it was awfull when faulty I was cooking.

Changing the condenser was a pig of a job
