£500? That's pretty tight. But here's an option.

    Toshiba 210E<br />Marantz SR-4200<br />Wharfedale Diamond 8.1 Front Speakers

You could get that for now (totals about £500ish) then add some rears at a later date.

    But thats just one option.

You could try sdb-electronics for a <a href="http://www.sdb-electronics.com/Yamaha_AVAR.htm" target="_blank">Yamaha A5 for £199</a><br />and QED for <a href="http://www.qed-uk.com/cgi-bin/q?i=Kqhw334PfBX0&bg=216&bp=stargates&v=10" target="_blank">Eltax Stargate X1</a> (sub/sat if space is tight) or <a href="http://www.qed-uk.com/cgi-bin/q?i=Kqhw334PfBX0&bg=216&bp=silverados&v=10" target="_blank">Eltax Silverados</a> if you want bigger boxes (both are £109 delivered!)<br />That will leave you £192 to find a decent multiregion DVD and some interconnects. No idea about what is a good value DVD player at the moment.

I have the Yamaha Amp (but I haven't used this supplier) I also have just got the Eltax Stargate X1 from QED (great service) and I'm pleased with the speakers too. I got the Stargates to replace some Mission speakers because my new front room couldn't accomodate them and for the money they're great.

I know this isn't an audiophile system but there's a lot of bang per buck.

If the Denon 1602 is on its way (or just out) in the UK, you could probably get an excellent deal on the 1601.
