Are the ones in caddys removable so I can play etc in my LG4040B ? I guess not ? Does it matter what make, can any damage occur to the recorder ?

I've seen Panasonic double suded caddyless ones going for £9.75 buy it now on ebay, is this a good price ?

Type 4 (9.4GB) and Type 2 (4.7GB) are removable. I bought a 5 pack of the MediR ones from www.lynxdv.co.uk for about £6 each. They work perfectly and are type 4 discs. www.bigpockets.co.uk sell Ridata RAM in caddies, and www.blankdiskshop.co.uk sell Datasafe ones, but I have tried neither.

Double-sided discs without caddies at £9.75 is not a good buy. That's the typical price for a Panasonic branded disc in a caddy. Double sided discs outside of a caddy will be very easy to damage since there is no protective layer. You'd be better of sticking to caddyless single sided discs.

The doule sided datasafe ones from blankdiscshop are excellent. They are £5.89 each and work just as well as the Panasonic.

They even look a little better as they come in a smoked dark grey caddy rather than the orange of the Panasonic ones.

I don't see any red lug on mine. The disk is a black datasafe disk.
Perhaps you can't open with certain caddys ?

I got a few of the Ridata Ram from big pockets. They have a small problem that the Panny doesnt like them sometimes and fails to read them. i found that leaving the discs in the machine is the problem.
Take the discs out and put in another disc and play it for about 5 mins then replace the disc it works fine.

Personally id buy the Panny Double sided Cart discs next time.

Too much farting about for my liking. I bought 5 caddyless Panny discs for £20 inc P&P. Fair price for quality discs.

    krismcewan,

Were you in the Railway last night?

Good man, i sell these machines and the panny discs, without a doubt the panny discs are 100% they have never failed on me.
The r discs are around £2.30 and the caddy less ram discs are £3.90, soon all discs will be caddyless again bringing the price down. In short ONLY USE THE PANASONIC DISCS.

I get mine (single sided) from 7dayshop - good value. Panasonic shops have them for about £18 for 5 as well.

I went and bought the panny disks,

Chucked the ridata ones out and kept the carts to prevent the weeone gettign her sticky fingers on them.
