So I started out with a TV.
Then I put the TV through the Hi-fi speakers.
Then I buy a cheap processor and get a centre and rears.
Then I got a better AV amp and had stereo rears and added a sub.
Next step was a new centre.
Most recently an AV amp upgrade that can give me 6.1 if I buy an extra speaker.
Now I see talk of 7.1 (whatever that is).

Should I be installing ceilling and floor speakers so that the new 9.1 full surround can work, with sound not just going AROUND the room but also up and down it?
    :zonked: :D

cant beat putting everything to a single spk taking the bottom off and putting your head inside
you also save a lot on extra spks.

dolby headphone is an interesting thing, once you get used to the ambiance not normally present in headphones. sorry if this comment seems random for the thread but muttley's post prompted me to remember dolby headphone - is it taking off cos i think its reasonably good enough to be present on AV amps and portable DVD players?

    grin.. wonder why? :D

funny though.. what you described about your home cinema evolution is nearly exactly how mine has evolved!

wish i could attribute my randomness to post-pub-ness :zonked:

Just thought I would mention (in case you did not know) that the new Yamaha DSP-AZ9 comes with 9.1! How long before that filters to the lower end of the market, and the higher end has to create some more channels. 10.1, 11.1 here we come!!!

    Nice setup. :smashin:

What signal is going to your S36 II front effect speakers, same as the front SVA 1800 speakers?

    Garrett,

The front effects are the Z1 front effects channels. This is not the same signal as the front L/R channels. Yamaha DSP derives the signal from the front channels but it is more of an early reflection type variation of the front signal

    Cheers
    Tom
