There seem to be more and more 8x media around these days.

I am assuming there is no benefit to using these in a slower machine, but will they still write at 4x in something like the E85?

Just want to make sure before I buy any at that speed as I am getting a PC drive which will be able to use them and it would be useful to have a universal media.

    Cheers

I think you will find the E85 writes at 2.4x. Faster media should work fine just as you say no benefit except in your PC writer.

    Cheers!

Also, if I go for Ritek for example - is readability in different devices as good as it is for 4x media?

8x DVD-R media should be written at 4x in the E85.

I read somewhere that the write speed can vary depending on the quality of the disc, or how well it's been looked after. Therefore you may not get quicker than 4x, but it might be slower.
