could anyone tell me if the 8800gts 320mb is good enough for all games at max settings with 1680x1080res or lower.

It depends game to game, but generally, yes.

If your thinking about buying one of these cards wait a few weeks, ATI R600 and NVIDIA’s new cards should be released.

Meaning price drops on existing cards, I have the 8800gts 640mb version, which runs everything maxed out at 1600 by 1050.i was in the same boat but went for the bigger version, extra 30/50. The 320mb should run games maxed out at those res’s, but the extra ram should come in handy with new games released.

thanks for the help i think i will go for the 640mb. just wondering would the 640mb run the ultra setting in doom? or would you have to get the gtx for that.

The 640mb GTS would definitely run the ultra setting in Doom. In fact, it should run any game you can buy at the moment with the highest settings. It is the second fastest consumer graphics card you can currently buy, after all.

i'd say go for the 640mb for the sake of a few quid it'll make a difference soon with games like crysis...

one thing i'm a little concerned with mine tho, i get around 180fps all shiny options on in CS:S stress test at 1280x720.....in game i'm getting around 40-60 in heavy moments (ie storming projector room full of T's in cs_office) at the most, averaging around 70-80fps when in quiet patches with dark places going up to 120fps....i'm not on full shiny options tho.....only 1280x720 res too....with c2d 6300......i'm guessing its just the fact theres so much going on in a public game?.....havnt had chance to upload hl2 yet to see fps in that.....sound a little low to you guys tho?.....i was kinda hoping with the CPU and RAM plus the 8800 GTS i'd be on around 80fps at the slowest during heavy moments and 130+ otherwise....

8800gts works better at higher resolutions then your running all tests show this and anything over 70 is fine.

I wonder if anyone can help me out this problem is driving me crazy got 8800 hooked up to DTL-632V200 dvi to hdmi but it wont set to 1360x768 only it keeps going so the desktop is way to big for the screen never had this problem with ati 1950 it's this bloody nvidia card.

you tried using the hd settings on the card?, 720p and 1080i,1080p can be selected and then you can reduce the res in there.

Don't think you can get that res to come up on normal monitor settings.

It keeps changing to them settings even if you set it to what i did 1360x768 it still goes to 720 or 1080 I even disabled them saying it's not hd tv still nothing way over the top size nvidia control panel is a waste of time never had this trouble with ATI cards.

Looks like I am going to be switching back to ATI card.

Just looked up info on net loads of people are having same sort of problems its the poor Nvidia Control Panel.

Uncheck the box "Hide Modes Not Supported" then try.

If the TV says "Mode Not Accepted" then just wait 15s and it will revert to what it was :)

Doom 3? 8800? :rotfl: You can run Ultra settings on a 6600GT iirc!!!

You do NOT need an 8800 for Doom. At all. Currently the only game which gives the 8800s something to chew on is Stalker.

The 6600gt has only got 128mb of memory i though you had to have a 500mb card to run doom ultra. so would that mean that the 320mb 8800gts would run it as well or would you have to have a 640mb card.

article describing each setting on doom! 6600gt running Ultra settings at what res?. 800 by 600 or something, and 10fps fun gaming.

i Used to run a 6800 ultra far better card than a 6600gt and it struggled to run ultra settings.
