the later option would be my choice. It offers so much more room for adjustment and expansion that it seems to me a no brainer

    Cheers Buns,

I hoped that would be the case. If i told my wife that i was replacing a 2.5 month old DVD player she would do unspeakable things to me. Saying that telling her that I want to spend another £800 or so will probably yeild the same results!!

Do you have any suggestions for a scaler. I have brought this up before but I still need convincing.

    Cheers again.

I would go for one of the lumagen units, with dvi, and I would put sdi on it as well, you can always upgrade the dvd or add sdi to sky at a later date.

Have a look on www.lumagen.com for more info.

I would suggest the lumagen visiondvi.... it isnt released yet but I think will do within the next couple of months at worst. It would be £800 and is meant to be doing almost anything you might want.

The sdi option gizlaroc suggests is a good plan but I guess would take you over budget. In reality it doesnt matter unless you have immediate plans with sdi since you can always get the sdi option added later

    Hello,

I had identified the Lumagen DVI as the one that I could afford. However I have heard that the DVI only supports fixed resolutions and refresh rates. Would this be a big issue? The HDP is £400 more and my wife has already stated her immense displeasure :nono: at me spending £800. If it offers more flexibility and significantly better performance would it be worth the earache?

no one has seen both units (the HDP is on very limited release and the dvi isnt out for a while yet) so impossible to say whether the HDP would be worth the extra for you. Gordon would be the man to talk to about it though and im sure will know as much as anyone wrt fixed resolutions and rates.

    all the best
