When I do make the plunge (AGAIN) and get a plasma, I am planning to mount it in my living room.

After measuring up last night, it will be sitting around 8' away from my settee.

My question is, is this too close ?

I know it is far from ideal but will it cause problems ?

If it will, I will have to seriously rethink what size I am going to go for.

I think 10 feet is ideal - and that is for a SD panel, if you are getting to PV500 you can get away with sitting a bit closer because of the smaller pixels.

You should be fine..don't get any smaller.

My plasma is about 6' from the front of my sofa which means my head is about 8' away and it's absolutely fine. This was one thing I was worried about before I got mine cos my room is so narrow but no problems at all.

That is the problem with my living room, it is around 10'-12' foot wide and about 20' long but the chimney breast comes into the room so where I want to mount it is around 8' away.

I sit the same distance away from my current 32" Sony Wega and that is not a problem.

I think it could depend on the resolution of the screen. I sit about 8' away from my Hitachi 42" plasma - that's a 1024 x 1024 screen, and have no problems. I recently was looking at a friend's 852 x 480 screen from the same distance, and it looked distinctly "pixelly".

I sit about 8' away from my PWD6 and don't have any problems with the distance. DVDs look stunning and Telewest digital cable TV is watchable although some of the more compressed channels look poor, but then they'd probably look bad even from a larger distance. My young son finds a viewing distance of 2' to 3' just perfect for CBeebies.

Besides the pixel issue, it´s also a question if your eyes can handle it on this short distance. I think with only 8feet it can be too much for some people..

I have about 8 feet distance myself and I went for the 37"... currently have a 32" CRT and I think at some point the picture gets too big for the eye to capture it. (without having to move the head constantly like in the cinema if you sit in the front row)

I was wondering the same, as I sit about 9 feet away from a 43 inch. But now I reckon the 50 " would have been fine. But I suppose it depends on the individual.

My next screen is going to be 50" if I can afford it. A 42" screen is still too small for 2.35:1 movies at a distance of 8'.
