However, money isn't everything, but health IS - I am sure that life is far too short to worry about all that detail but..... where is the money going???

Money will be no good when the anarchy comes down.
Take my advice , tinned food , a good pair of shoes , a sharp knife and a length of strong rope is all you really need.

You could kit your house out with one of those 100" samsungs in every room!

If I won that, the wall of my house would be knocked down and i'd have a 20 foot deep, 3 foot wide fish tank installed!

    Hi,

I personally believe that Lottery prize jackpots should be capped, so that no one ticket can win more than £5 million (or the equivalent in Euros)! For one woman to win £77 million is obscene, in my books! And if you're part of a syndicate, well, you'll simply have to be more careful, if there are large numbers of you all playing on one ticket! :D

Yes, part of me is being a sore loser about this - because I play the lottery every once in a while too - but the fact that no one needs to win that much money, to be able to live comfortably for the rest of their lives, is annoying the hell out of me! You could live off of the interest alone from £1 million, let alone £5 million or more!

Surely, it would be better to have more prizes at the lower ranks?! Or even have multiple jackpot prizes of £5 million each. Wouldn't that make the game more enjoyable for everyone?!

    Pooch
    (Frustrated at being a loser!)

I had a thread on the subject before saying it should be capped and there be more top prizes say 7 1million prizes, rather than 7million going to just one person but most people where greedy and said stuff that if I win I want the lot.
I think there tickets should all be random and when a number is used it cannot be issued again. Not right good if you win the big prize one week and there is 200 joining then there is a roll over for 3 weeks and one person wins.

Whoa.. This really makes you realise just how much £79million is.

If you put that in a good bank account (say 4.5% interest rate) and just lived on the interest, you would have a mere £41,000 a week to struggle by on! after tax!!

I agree with Pooch, no-one needs that much money!

I'm sure if you put £79 million in the bank, they would be able to do you a 8-10% interest rate.

Except footballers of course, they don't seem to be able to manage on £80,000 a week these days ;)

I would have to go one step further and turn County's ground into forest's new training ground :D

Seriously I would probably do something really stupid like buy Minardi or Jordan Formula One and run it for about a year till I went bankrupt! :)

    Hi,

    With £77 million, you could:
    - give every single one of your relatives, and family each a million, and
    - treat your pets to something special, and
    - buy the perfect house in the perfect place, and
    - go for a round-the-world trip, and
    - buy every item of home cinema kit you ever needed, and
    - purchase every film you've ever wanted to see on DVD, from anywhere in the world, and
    - buy every single CD you've ever wanted to own on CD, and
    - and still have change left over to do it all over again... next year!

    Pooch
(Feeling  because I can't even win a £10 let alone £77 million!)

The person who won it lived about 20 mins from me. She bought it at my girlfriends local shop, which is across the road from her. Sickened! :)

I've been told (not sure how true it is sorry!) that there was a guy who joined the queue at the same time as her and being a 'gent' let her go first. They both got lucky dips so if he hadn't been so polite then he would have had her ticket

    Now thats sickening!!!!

Man, can you calculate...Interest on £1mln wouldn't even cover my mortgage payments...And on top of that if you don't work but live on interest you spend a lot more money, £1mln is definitely not enough to live on and enjoy yourself....

But I guess it all depends on your age and expected standards in life...

    JohnG,

Regarding your post about footballers not being able to live on their vast wages, I was shocked to hear last night during the Liverpool v Kaunas game that the average wage for their players is £500 PER MONTH !!!!

If you consider that Rio Ferdinand is arguing that he wants £120,000 per week rather than £100,000 per week, he is currently earning 800 times more per month than the average Kaunas player. Shocking !!

I hope in the years to come the likes of these players will admit that they were the ones that ruined the game, when it eventually goes t*ts up.

So it really should have been Kaunus 1 Liverpool 800...Shockingly bad performance of Liverpool....In my opinion it is all about the economics behind it...If those players are pulling in the revenue proportionately than it is a good thing...Just like in normal business if you make the sales or savings you get the money....And if you don't get the money, find another job or start-up your own company....

    Hi,

    1) I'm actually lousy at Maths, so I'll stand corrected. However...

    2) I was expecting that people could live comfortably on the combined interest that £77 million would give you, if put into the right kind of account.

But like you say, it depends on what your standards are, and how old you are.
