    1080p all the way mate

basically the rule is the higher the number the better. its talking about the amount of pixels so 1080 pixels is better than 720 and 720 is better than 480

There wont be much in it, your panel is probably 768 pixels so there will be some scaling either way. Depends if your TV's better at upscaling or downscaling, just try them both and see what you prefer. When I had a 768 panel 1080i was slightly better, but that was a different make to yours (Toshiba).

Whilst that's kind of true its pretty bad advice. FATFINGERS73 explained a little better.

I have a 42" LG Plasma (42PC1D), with a native resolution of 1024x768. I personally use the VGA cable as I have a premium. This allows me to select the exact resolution of the TV, 1024x768 rather than having to select 720p or 1080i.

I'm presuming that with HDMI on the 360 you get the same options that you get with the component cable? (720p/1080i/1080p)

As has been mentioned, just go for the one that looks best on your TV. I have another HDMI device (BT Vision) and personally I select 720p on that because it's progressive scan.

If your TV is 1 year old, i doubt its going to be FULL HD. So i would choose the 720p instead of the 1080i. But its down to your eyes at the end of the day, its down to what YOU think looks better ! :D
