Forget the Lowe, its too reflective and too small. Try either the RD65 or the Sony. I will be going to the AV show (you cant miss me :D ), cheers for the info. I'm glad to hear that your thinking of getting rid of the LG :hiya: :hiya: :hiya:

I heard that sony will be charging £8,000-00 for this display. If it is true its typical Sony big screen price. Kourosh do you know the retail on the 70' Sony?

    Sorry Guys,
Sony don't make a 70" DLP! The make a 70" SXRD Rear TV which is a very different from DLP.

However the Qualia 006, as it is called, has been getting rave reviews in the US. I hope it is this set they are bringing to the UK market.

They are not bringing in the 70" qualia. The UK launch to selected dealers was to be last Thursday, 7/7. It was cancelled at last moment for obvious reasons. I was on the guest list thanks to Forum member and one of my dealers who I do calibration work for...thanks X3ELS. The 55" unit is coming as is a LCD flat panel and the mighty 004 projector......if get more info I'll let you know. The new launch presentation is sometime in August I believe.

I've seen the 70 but only with HD. It looks superb with BluRay......but who knows how it'd look with SD material....My main interest is the projector.....

Qualia and normal Sony stuff is like two seperate brands. Qualia in USA has dedicated staff in dedicated home theatre rooms off the main show floor. It's HI-END. I have no idea about Sony's run of the mill products. Not because I am not interested but more because I've nto been asked to look in to it and there are only so may hours in the day.......

Qualia I am interested in.....at least some of the brand.....I don't particularily care about Qualia headphones....

So why no 70 incher for the UK. Too few units (will sell) to make it worth putting in a PAL tuner maybe? Gimme a break for the price these sets will be they can put in dual tuners without affecting sales one iota.
(I have a cynical hunch its for other reasons...)

I think i saw that 70 in disney epcot two weeks ago, on the ultimate home theather show/ride. And it looked great. I think it was that one anyway, was kind of hard to tell what set it was, but i imagine it was that one.

I dont think Sony think there is a market for large displays in the UK. Look at the RD65 for example, not many of these sets have been sold because people feel it is too big. Crazy talk I know but true. :D

why so negative, :nono: i've been watching the price of TV's drop drastically over the last 10 years, i can remember plasma 42" models costing £14,000 and they were s**t. so we could see these sets for around the 5 grand mark cause believe it or not that's not cheap. :D

No way, It's cheapest price in the US is about $10,000. Won't go for less that 7 or 8 here.

Bear in mind that $10,000 is a street price in the US (and a very good street price - you'd have to pay $11K most places). The RRP is $13K. If you look at the Qualia 004 projector for comparison, you're looking at a US street price of about $23K, and UK price of about £21.5K. All in all, I think £10K is the sort of price level the 006 will sell for. Anyone who is expecting to get one for £4K-£5K is dreaming.

    Hi NicolasB,
£4-5K, yea maybe that is a bit on the low side for 'Rip off Britain' but hey the US is about to get bombarded with 1080P DLP sets ranging from 50" to about 70". These sets should have 80 to 90% the picture quality of the Qualia 006 if not better.

The introduction of these sets into the market together with 1080p front DLP projectors within a year will have a knock on effect on the price.

Sony aren't going to be able to sell the 006 for 13$k for much longer. When you can buy a set from Samsung, Mits or Tosh for about $5k.

If I can't get my hands on the 006. I'm hoping we will get a 1080p DLP released in the uk with a 60 to 70" screen. If not this year early next.

    Thanks

    Paulh.

    Kourosh :hiya:

You long absence is excused :rotfl: Nice to see you back.

Bad news about the PS3, will it be out of date when it does arrive or are they going to tweak and dd better hardware to make up for the time. Also is it a world wide release or is the UK going to last behind the US and Japan as with previous Play stations?

LOL... at calling grand wega's crap. The worst large screen I have ever seen was the 60' rear pro. I saw it from across the street in totenham court road. It was £5,000-00 and I promised myself if it was a good performer I would of bought it there and then (BTW I was out shopping with my dad not for me). Once I got close about 15 foot away I could see how blocky and pixelated it was. I thought it was a shared feed. :nono: :nono: :nono: It was being feed directly by a £500 dvd player. My heart sank and so did my dreams of a 60' set. I tried 2 other dvd players and a few disc's. No luck. :thumbsdow :thumbsdow :thumbsdow

Sony should be shot for producing this tv and then shot again for charging £5,000-00 :suicide: :suicide: :suicide:

If the 70' did make it over here how much do you recon it would cost?

    :D

    hi razor :hiya: ,

as usual uk is the last its not gonna be a world wide realease like the xbox, spring for japan, then usa then uk  so if we want an earlier vrsion,as blimming usual we have to pay for expensive imports.to be honest mate ive not heard the 70" not making it i dont know how true that is but i rekon it will be under 5K the prices of sony products are really coming down the next generation plasma and lcd which have hdmi are gonna be quite compatative ;) which is always good cause it always creates competition across the board, you can get the 50"grand wega now for £1400 to be honest i wouldnt have 1 if i was given it for nothing
