Sad day of remembrance.... 10 years ago today 52 died and 700 injured.

Many families will be meeting up today to remember their lost ones.

Are we any safer today? Well, the threat of terrorist attack and the people prepared to carry out one is probably greater than ever. We now have ISIS, its follower's and returnees.

But to counter that the security services are matching the threat with an arrest on an almost daily basis.
I doubt the threat will be defeated in the short term.

I would think that the local populace are helping a great deal in supplying information to the security services. Hence the daily arrests.

Is tempting to overestimate the danger. We lived with a constant threat through the seventies and eighties, yet the likelihood of being injured was extremely small. I'd like to say we were stoical and resilient. But, actually, it hardly ever entered my head that something might happen. Obviously sad if you are injured/killed and I would not want to trivialize that. But falling off ladders probably kills more people each year than this sort of threat. Maybe that's because it is so well-contained? Who knows! Anyway, time to set up those ladder monitoring stations.
