I am consideing a Samsung HT BD 1252 Blu Ray 5.1 home cinema system. How will a Blu Ray disc with 7.1 audio reproduce sound on this system? Will it play it in 5.1 the next best option from 7.1 or default to 2.1? I intend to use it with SKY+ HD connecting to TV via HDMI for SKY and HC and use Optical rom Sky to H/C. Any ideas please?

Where will those two channels of sound play then? Mixed among the fronts and rears or..?

The amplifier should route the left surround and left rear to the single left rear channel and similary for the right channel. 7.1 simply creates a wider rear spread and has no effect on the front left, centre, or subwoofer outputs. It provides a better sound image in awkward shaped rooms where a single pair of rears can't be placed in an ideal position.

What would happen if you lost the rears all together? (In a "3.1" setup) Would the rear channels be lost all together or would they play through the front left, right and center?
