7.1 speaker setup

    I understand that most films are only capable of 5.1 sound. So whats the point of having a 7.1 system .If I have 4 satellites speakers (in addition to centre and fronts) what to the other 2 Satellites do. Where's the best place to position them, at the rear of the room or at the sides.

    Yep as you've probably found out, some dvd's (like LotR) have DD EX & DTS ES for 6.1 or 7.1 matrixed sound.

    The speakers should be positioned as follows, surround rears at your side & back rears behind you.

    Dont forget that the dolby prologic 2x also upsamples anything to 6.1 or 7 speakers.

    Most new amps & receivers will have this functionality, so you're safe there!
