My current speakers are as follows.

Mourdaunt Short Genies - 5.1
Mission 77DS Dipoles

I am not sure where I shall put the rears. It seems to make most sense to put the dipoles as Surround Rears as they are right on top of the listening position, but that goes against the THX website guide.

What do you lot think?

:lease:

Ideally you need a few feet of depth behind the listening position to really hear the benefit of 7.1. As it is, you'll have them right on top of you. In a perfect world the dipoles would be to the sides of your main seating area.

Sometimes it's better to have a properly setup 5.1 system rather than a less-than-ideal 7.1 setup as you can end up knackering the surround stage.

Could move the sofa out a bit and have the surround backs behind firing upwards as that can work well. Not always practical to do this though.

What about have the dipoles mounted on the ceiling firing down behind the seating position?

The sofa has to be back to the wall unfortunately.
