    Hi , i'm trying to decide on a 7.1 speaker setup for my lounge / home cinema - 8m x 6m ( 26ft x 20ft ).

I have looked at the KEF KHT 5005s - would this system have enough power for a room this size ?

If not , i've looked at the following :-

    KEF Q7AV package
    Mission M5 system
    Tannoy Eyeris

I'd appreciate your opinions on the above or any other setups you'd recommend instead.

I will probably go for the Denon 3805 receiver .

System will be used mostly for T.V. / movies viewed on a 42" plasma and 8ft wide projection screen.

Speaker budget - up to £2500

    Hello,

I've been running with F-Q7/Q9c/R-Q1/FE-Q8s for almost a year now. Also got a Servo15 in a room 5m wide x 7m long. Sounds real good. Got it running off a Yamaha AZ2.

I reckon the new Q2ds will give better surround sound.

The weakest link would have to be the Q9c. I would love to get my hands of a pair Q11s and a Q10c. Sadly only available in the States.

    Just my thoughts

    Hi, with 2500 on a 7.1 speaker package I'd go for M&K K Series.

    3 x K7 (LCR) = 275 x3 = 825

    2 Pairs of K4 Tripoles which IMHO is GREAT = 495 x 2 = 990.00

    Sub maybe B&W = 675

    TOTAl = 2490

Please note that this is system is AV only, not very good for music. Hope I been helpfull, You should alway demo potential equipment...let me know what you decide.

I would also concur that M&K should be on your demo list plus maybe the Pro-Ac sub sat system

I would also look at ATC, the SCM10's are very impressive.

    Thanks for the replies guys.
I've checked out the Kef systems and ruled them out for my room , same with the Tannoys.

The Mission M5s are still hanging in there .

Have added the M & K s to my list - top end of budget , but good !!

Managed to get a listen to the Jamo D6PTX system and was impressed - plenty of power , cost a good bit less than the M & K s aswell :)

Starting to have second thoughts on the 3805 with the above - now looking at the Pioneer VSX-AX5i i-linked to the DV-868AVi .

    Hi sjb,

I've got a room of similar dimensions to yours and am looking to
upgrade my speakers. How come you discounted the Kefs? Also where
did you manage to get a demo of the Jamos and in your opinion are they ugly? (wife type question).

    cwoj -
main reason for second thoughts on the 3805 was that i could i-link the pioneer dvd and receiver and also get a hdmi output for plasma/projector.

still not decided for sure , it's between the 868/ax5i and 2900/3805 combos.

Main worry with the Kefs (5005s) was whether they would have enough power for a room this size .

I heard the Jamos at a friend of a friend's at the weekend - it was a nice setup !
As far as looks go - yes i do think they are ugly just mounted on the walls , that's the one negative . If i go for them i'll probably mount the three front speakers on stands like Jamo do with the dearer d7ptx .

The Kefs certainly win on looks , that's also the reason i'm still looking at the Mission M5s.

Did you listen to the Kef's? I doubt they would have trouble filling a room that size.

I have just ordered the 3805 and getting rid of the ax5i mainly for the video upconverstion. i have to admit i want the 868 and love the idea of an ilink and hdmi, but am holding out for the denon ilink gen 3..

after demo's i thought the denon sounded a little better....but only a little.

I would go for the KEF Q7AV package from your original list, they should be able to cope with your room, and look lovely too.

They are also great with music, if you have the space for them, get those.

But don't over look the Mordaunt Short THX range either, I'm VERY happy with my current Mordaunt Short setup, it's very musical and great with movies too. It's also a damn sight cheaper than the Q7AV package too.

wow what a change. I am just waiting for my 9000's to go with a spanking new 3805............. i held on the sub, toying with the idea of buying a svs or blowing it on a dvd recorder...although i think its going to be a new svs sub!!!

what cable are you using for the speakers? how many did you buy? the full 7?

    Went for 3 x 9000s for the front and 4 x 5001s for the sides/back , and the psw 3000 .

I am using QED Original cable - was going to go for the QED S.A. but was advised that it wasn't necessary . Apparently , the S.A cable affects the speaker's top end a little  but the Kefs already have plenty.

At least , i think that's what the guy said :zonked:

Anyway , i'm away to knock some holes in my walls !

    Good luck with the speakers,

Give us a review of them when you get some time. If you give them the thumbs up then I may copy your configuration. :)

I haven't received the speakers yet :thumbsdow

Apparently Kef were out of the 5001s - delivery supposed to be mid July , looks like i'll have to chase them up.

It will probably be a while before i get the speakers tried - main reason for buying them now was so i could work out where the cables were going before i get the room decorated.

Still to order projector, plasma, receiver, dvd player etc.. just got to make my mind up which to go for .

    Will post feedback asap .
