I've got a high quality 5.1 av system. Wondered if 7.1 is really worth the bother - extra speakers, angry wife etc etc

Depends on the size of the room, where you sit and how easily you can placate your good lady. Personally have stuck at 6.1 and probably will for the duration of time I'm in this house (my first purchase so a while I think) and I guess that's that. I guess it is really a question of space.

    I'm wondering about this too.

I've got a nice 5.1 Set up, and don't know whether to go for 6.1 or 7.1.

I'm best to take some pictures really, and ask some peoples opinions...

A good 5.1 system can beat a 7.1 system, when I went from a denon A1-SE to a lexicon I didnt have the amplification to drive the centre rears and it still sounded far better than the denon. However, once the amps were added it was better again.

What I am trying to say is, don't do what a mate of mine did and replace his very good 5.1 intergrated amp with a newer but not as good 7.1 amp, he is really regretting it.
