I currently have a 65EF950v and use it mostly for gaming and films.

Simply put, is the upgrade to an OLED65C8 going to be worth it?

There is enough of a gap, 3 generations, to be a worthy and appreciable upgrade

I did this and the C8 made the ef950 look silly. Now I’m with the Sony A1-E. I wash shocked at the difference.

If it were me I'd see if I could find a demo first. It is a lot of money and only you can decide whether the improvements are worth the cash.

I traded up from a B6 to a C8 and the upgrade was quite noticeable.

The Sony A1E is better than the C8?

I'm also running a 950v and I've been very happy with it. In what ways would the C8 be an upgrade? My TV is calibrated and my room is dark, I can fully black it out but the walls are light coloured.

The c8 is nearly twice as bright as the 950 for hdr material, it also has dolby vision hdr where as the 950 only does hdr10, it handles near black alot better than the 950 too, the c8 is generally more uniform than the 950's are, as alot of the 950's suffered with vignetting

Thanks for the detailed reply. I'm never sure about the extra brightness, mine already hurts my eyes when some scenes transition from dark to light, that's with the calibration which isn't exactly bright.

Near black improvements would be good though, my panel has been pretty uniform. Does the C8 still dim on scenes with little motion? I watched Conan 2011 in 4k last night and a couple of times it dimmed the screen, I haven't had it on any other films. I looked for the option to turn it off but can't see it in the service menu which I accessed with my Harmony remote.

The c8 should only be brighter on specular highlights for hdr making the image look more realistic, not overall brightness, the hdr couldn't be calibrated properly on a 950, where as on the c8 you can calibrate for hdr, the screen dimming on the 950 shouldn't be as noticeable on the c8 as the c8 has the least aggressive abl (auto brightness limiter) compared to other oleds, I went to an e6 from a 950 and saw an improvement, so the c8 should be even more of an improvement
