Simple question - how much should I be paying for a 60G PS3, please, what with the imminent release of 160G PS3?

Take it the 60gb is second hand? If so it depends on thekind of chance you want to take.

The 60gb version was slightly different to the current 40/80gb models (card reader/a couple more usb ports/ps2 game compatibility) so I guess it depends on how important these features are to you.

As for the 160gb being a premium because of it's hdd size remember that you can upgrade the PS3 hdd for very little money. A 160gb 2.5" sata drive is about £36 at scan.

Personally I very rarely use the additional features (and only the card reader at that) of my 60gb PS3. If I was to buy now I would get the cheapest I could find (new) and put a bigger hdd in it.

GAME Had some second hand ones on their site with FIFA 09 for £330 the other day, not sure if they still have them

Second hand? I would pay more than £240. As above, very cheap to install new HD, which I'm looking to do in the near future :)

Don't forget the ability to play SACD's

I sold one a few weeks back with GTA4 and casino royale blu-ray for £280.

My local gamestation had a sign up saying the 60 gig was £249 (used) but I dont know if they had any in stock.

I know this because they had another sign up saying they were giving £301 trade for a 60 gig and I wondered why, and asked their manager!

 So they were loosing money on it , what did the manager say?

Maybe I will try my local gamestation.

Is this confirmed? My 60GB model is quite lould and it would be a straight swap for an 80GB model plus a free game. I called SONY saying it was lould but they told me to sling my hook.

I don't mind loosing the PS2/SACD playback, as i've never used it. Bummer about lack of USB ports and loss of memoary card slots but i can buy a USB Hub. Biggest loss would be the chrome finishes.

It may be worth loosing them in order for a silent console

Could someone call their local gamestation to confirm as my store refuses to give trade in quotes over the phone

Wasn't there talk of a new smaller more efficient Cell processor being released in the not too distant future?
It might be worth waiting for one of those, you've put up with it for this long.

It's at the point of unbearable noise and i can't put up with it much longer. I'd be surprised if Gamestation gave £301 based on Blockbuster giving £160 and CEX giving £250.

I could trade in and get a 80GB model at no extra cost then i may go for it. Like i said, i'll miss the extra features but i think the number of people with a 60GB console are in the minority anyway

Sorry I didnt reply earlier. When I asked about the £301 trade value, the manager explained that CEX was offering £300, (This was a couple of weeks ago) and they had to beat them by £1. As far as selling them for £250, he said that was the official used price at gamestation at the time and they didnt change it depending on whether there was a CEX to match in the vicinity.

As it was trade and not cash he said they still wouldnt be losing.

Ah, that explains it. My best bet seems to be to sell my PS3 on ebay for £300 (maybe more as some go for £450) and buy a new one instore. It's a shame as there's not another possibility to get another 60GB:thumbsdow

phone sony they mite give you an exchange.

They told me to sling my hook because even though the console i currently have is one of their replacement consoles, the one i originally bought from ebay is out of warrenty and they want £200 for a replacement :thumbsdow

Oh it was worth a try, some people have had replacements with out of warrenty consoles. How about singing up for continous play(think thats what it's called)alot better option then splashing out 200 notes.

I said i was singed to continous play and they still weren't having it for some reason.

The console is not faulty but it's too lould to me as it's all happened since having playTV installed and using the console for LONG periods of time.

I'm not surprised, "singed"

I'm going to call again in the morning and try again. I've only just taken out Continous play but surely i'm covered from day 1 even if i call the day after taking out the policy

You are covered from the day you signed up,just tell them its not working, they will replace it within a couple of days, going by what people have said using the service they turn up with a new/reconditioned 60gb and just swap it over. Its only a courier and they dont check your old console, give them a ring mate:smashin:
