I have a 6.1 set up using the Yamaha 440. Had it now for a few weeks and very pleased with it.

Thought it was about time I read the instruction manual, so I started late last night.

From what I read last night, I think it said that when you are watching a DVD in DTS 5.1, you can switch the amp into
matrix 6.1 so that you get sound from the centre rear.

Is this correct or am I reading it wrong. If it is, does this
not effect the quality of the sound. I.E is it worth doing or would
it be better left in 5.1.

Also does anyone prefer Neo 6 to PL2 in cinema mode??

    Any thoughts anyone???

    Cheers

    Hi

You can switch the Matrix processing on for any dvd disc with a 5.1 track if you want to, it's totally up to you. Some discs sound better than others though so it's a case of experimenting.

Personally I prefer Dolby PLII over DTS Neo as it has much better channel seperation. :)

I prefer PLII, Neo 6 initially sounded better as it had fuller rear effects, but I discovered by experimenting that it was at the expense of clarity in the front stage, small detail and speech etc, have not gone back to neo 6 since.

ES/EX - I experimented with Matrix (Foyer scene) and Resident Evil (scene when they talk to the mainframe and the voice floats around behind you) they were similar in both 5.1 and forced 6.1 modes, so I keep it on now, I assume it works in the same way as PL1, in that it samples both channels and puts the common sounds in the centre (simplistic explanation I know) so as far as I can see unless you have your rear centre out of balance It can not do any harm.

    Blenky,

Sorry for the dealy in getting back to you, but my PC has been playing up.

Mine took ten days from ordering to arriving, but it was on order with a new telly and a pair of speakers.

Its worth the wait, I'm really impressed with mine, still playing with it to see what sounds best. Just need to get my hands on
a sound meter to make sure its set up correctly. Although
    it sounds good to me.

    Cheers
