    Hi there

New house, new telly, new cables required.

I'm hopefully going to be locating these cable behind the plasterboard wall, so wish to get it right first time.

    I need:

5m RGB Scart cable for Sky+
    5m Component cable for DVD
5m HDMI cable for second DVD player
5m VGA cable for Mac Mini

All connecting to my new wallmounted Samsung LE87M87BDX

Not on a huge budget, but I am struggling to find a 5m RGB Scart.

Any recommendations on the above would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

I must have banners turned off or they are being blocked, I don't see them. Anyway, I'm not saying I wouldn't purchase through a banner, just looking for advice first.

OK, to be specific, There don't seem to be many 5m RGB Scart cable around, at that length, is there going to be much difference in quality between a fully wired Scart cable, and an RGB one (if I can find one). If I got a fully wired one, I would be looking at the Profigold PGV785 5m. Any good for an SD Sky signal at that distance?

Profigold PGV335 5m Component for the DVD signal - any good?

VGA cable is not an issue.

HDMI cable, is there a difference between these, will they all do 1080p or only the ones that specify?

    Thanks again

With regards to Profigold. I can be pretty certain that any cables they make will be absolutely perfect for your job.

    Quite literally fantastic cables IMHO.

If you however as an alternatives for your 5m Scart dilemma have you looked at any of these from Kenable.

Ultra Pure Scart Cable OFC with Ferrites - 5m

    Pure Scart Cable - ROUND - Metal - OFC - 5m

    Pure Scart Cable - FLAT - Metal - OFC - 5m

All these three cables are full 21 pinned RGB compatible scarts. If it were me I would get the first with the additional Ferrites.

With regards to the 5m VGA and HDMI cable me personally I would make sure to buy premium cables for these two. As 5m from what I have read is the cut off point between getting away with a cheap HDMI and needing a premium one.

I also know from personal experience that VGA cables is the most demanding of cable types for using over longer distances. Needing a very high grade cable to keep the PQ and to stop any ghosting occurring.

Therefore for the the VGA I personally highly recommend the Profigolds, I have their 4m VGA Male to Female Extension cable and it is the best of all the VGA's I have tried.

Profigold VGA Monitor Video Cable, 2x15-pin HD Male - 5m

And for the 5m HDMI cable
Profigold HDMI to HDMI Digital Audio & Video Cable - 5m

From reading WHSV magazine the best perfoming HDMI cable over long distances is QED Quinex which I bought the 7m version from Play.com for £70

QED Qunex HDMI to HDMI Cable (5m)

    Hope this helps
    Anthony
