I know a lot of people don't like cheap sets but think this is a great set for the price

Picked it up for £299 from Appliances Direct

58 inch Branded Elecriq (but is a Toshiba Set)

4k direct lit Led screen with Local Dimming for excellent blacks

HDR including Dolby Vision

Alexa Voice Control

Very fast response does not feel like an underpowered set. Good range of Smart apps

Well worth a look if you are after a cheap set

Micro dimming usually refers to software processing/unzoned backlight adjustment. It's also known as dynamic contrast and global dimming.

Are you sure the set has local dimming? Have you seen it in action, and how many zones would you estimate? Presumably very few on such a cheap set, 8 or so?

Only had a play at moment doing a full set up tomorrow.

When you put brightness and back light to 100% you can see about 20 distinct vertical splits for the Dimming not been able to tie down the horizontal ones yet but figuring about the same or slightly less.

Maybe 20 vertical by 15 horizontal so 300 zones or slightly less than that

I think 300 zones is about normal for most direct lit rather than edge lit sets

How have

How have you found tv so far? I think there a vestel set as they make toshiba. There not bad sets just they tend to lack screen uniformity and quality control isnt quite up to scratch. But for the money if u get a good one free of defects its a bargain.

Hi

It has been really good screen is direct lit and no light bleed

Some of the motion processing is annoying and I have only been able to defeat it by going to game mode but once in that mode all is very good.

The Mrs is very finicky about slow TVs and this has her approval very quick to change channels sources etc. Good built in apps

Picks up correct HDR etc without issue

Very strong tuner as we are in a poor reception area and this is handelling it well

When setting up Alexa it is detected as a Toshiba Set and looking at the current 58 inch Toshiba out there its identical but cheaper

Re quality issues. I picked up a second one as a bedroom TV and that one had a grey dot about the size of a 5p coin on the centre of the screen. Looks like maybe some oil got on inside of screen during manufacture and looked like a grey smudge on bright white pictures

Took that one back abbd they swapped on spot without even checking it. replacement has been fauitless

Pleased to read you're liking this set but it has to be made clear this set has (/couldn't possibly have) absolutely no physical zone dimming, let alone does it have 300 led bulbs.
300 zones is barely even found on the highest end sets these days so it's hardly 'normal' for direct lit sets. 300 led bulbs isn't even a 'normal' number and individual control of them, which it would have to have to count 300 zones, is even more rare (pretty much only found on the Sony ZD9).

In this video, the entry level model of a similar size appears to have 84 bulbs (and the other higher end sets a respectable 240):

Here is an oft used zone count test video you could test with:

Example [but not the best since it has been filmed with the lights on in the rom] of what you should be able to see:
