Just took delivery today of It! The Terror From Beyond Space. Also currently awaiting delivery of It Came From Outer Space. This prompted me to have a check through my collection and I'm surprised at just how much 1950s SF I have accumulated on Blu-Ray. So far I've got: It Came From Outer Space Forbidden Planet The Day The Earth Stood Still The Creature From The Black Lagoon Revenge of the Creature The Incredible Shrinking Man Earth Vs The Flying Saucers Tarantula This Island Earth Them! The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms 20 Million Miles To Earth It Came From Beneath The Sea The Quatermass Xperiment Quatermass 2 X The Unknown Journey To The Centre Of The Earth Godzilla The Atomic Kid Invasion Of The Bodysnatchers The Fly The Invisible Boy On The Beach It! The Terror From Beyond Space The Man Who Could Cheat Death The Man In The White Suit And if we're interpreting the term science fiction in its strictest meaning we can add The Curse of Frankenstein and The Revenge of Frankenstein to the list. Like I say, I was thoroughly surprised to see how many of these I had accumulated "by stealth". However, still conspicuous by their absence on Blu Ray are two titles that I would have thought would be among the first to be released, namely The Thing (From Another World and War of The Worlds (I know the former is available on a Japanese Blu-Ray, but of questionable quality). I'd also love to see When Worlds Collide, Invaders From Mars and I Married A Monster From Outer Space get a release. A nicely restored release of the Japanese bizzarro entry The Mysterians would be most welcome too. There is however one little obscure gem that I'd love to see get a release and that is The Maze, a slice of spooky SF/horror weirdness that has only had an poor quality, public domain DVD release in Europe. Anyone else remember this one?
I'd love to hear your thoughts on It, The Terror etc when you get a chance to have a look. I was waiting for a 2 for £10 offer on it, but maybe it deserves a move from the Wish List to the basket.
Would love The Thing From Another World, I know the Japanese one gets slated on BR.com and still no sig of any other one. I have the following, not as much as I thought so will need to rectify that. 20 Million Miles to Earth Creature From The Black Lagoon Earth vs. The Flying Saucers Forbidden Planet It Came From Beneath The Sea Revenge of the Creature 3D Tarantula The Day The Earth Stood Still The Fly The Incredible Shrinking Man The Man In The White Suit The Revenge of Frankenstein
I'm not sure I'd put The Man In The White Suit in this category but good call nevertheless. I haven't seen it in quite a while. Bri
Surprised The World of the Worlds hasn't made it to BD yet, recorded it off Channel4HD many years ago but lost it when I wiped my Freeview hard drive.
On Region A you can add: Donovan's Brain Planet of the Vampires The Space Children The Colossus of New York The Brain That Wouldn't Die The Monster That Challenged The World GOG Invisible Invaders The Magnetic Monster
Why not? It has a hard science fiction concept at it's core. It is most definitely a science fiction film, comedy or not.
Warner Brothers hold the rights for the RKO catalogue in the USA and , more importantly, hold many of the original negatives, so I'm sure we can expect a nice version from them somewhere down the line.
I have the French version 'Rendezvous avec la peur' or something like that on BR. The French sub-titles can be cancelled and it comes with a nice booklet about the director, sadly all in French. Nevertheless, the transfer is very good. My favourite film, ever. The film is also avaialbe on Spanish BR. No idea why there isn't a UK version though. Annoying. Clem
Well it was out in the 50s and is fiction I wonder that as well, but then I seen dedicated mags dipping there toes in other areas not in there title, but then there's no need for it here.
Particularly when we already have this thread... 'Classic Brit horror on Blu-Ray (Hammer, Amicus, Tigon etc)'
