I am confused as to whether the 50CX and over has FALD (FULL ARRAY LOCAL DIMMING) or just edge dimming as the review on this site says both things. It refers to edge dimming "The TX-50CX802 benefits from extremely reliable edge-light technology" and then in the conclusion states the following "More importantly, as far as we are concerned, the full array backlighting system provided superb – near spotless"

so which is it? - I imagine for HDR that FLAD is a must

According to Panasonic, it's definitely edge-lit. We've been in email correspondence about it and we've literally just had final confirmation that FALD begins at 55-inch.

Curiously, you can see what looks like LEDs through some of the vents at the back and Panasonic UK have asked HQ in Japan what those might be. Not sure if we will get an answer on that, or not.

    CX850 in the USA

Any ideas as to many many zones the FALD sets (55+) have?

    According to Panasonic:

The 55" has 9 vertical zones by 2 horizontal zones and the 65" has 5 vertical zones and 6 horizontal zones

i understand that, and not wanting to cause arguments, so who do we believe
its just that its in black and white on that list i have just posted, the retailer who i ordered my cx50 from told me it was back lit and even HDTV Test say

(For those who prefer flat panels, similar image quality should be found on the top-tier Viera CX802 series (marketed as the Panasonic CX800 elsewhere outside of United Kingdom) which will be available as the 40in TX-40CX802B, the 50in TX-50CX802B, the 55in TX-55CX802B and the 65in TX-65CX802B. The smallest 40-incher will feature edge LED backlighting (rather than direct LED), and cover only 90% (instead of 98%) of DCI-P3 colour gamut.)

'Spec sheet' ... that is hardly official and just a screenshot from info on another av forum with constantly updated/adjusted info (last updated in March). The small amount of zones certainly seems to be in agreement with a german review on youtube ...

I thought it had better specs? (the 850)

Doesn't that directly support what Mark is saying? That the 40" CX802B (Or CX800 on the sheet) is edge lit, the 55, 60, 65 are backlit?

Anything new on that subject? Everyone seems to agree on edge lit for 40" and back lit for 55" and 65". However it still remains unclear for the 50": this spec sheet and most of the headlines (mostly on french websites) i've seen are going for full led on the 50" but Panasonic officials (and most of the german websites i've seen) are announcing edge lit

I so much want to believe it's a direct LED!

The following link to a German video comparison of the 50cxw804 and 55cxw804 (German models) you can definitely tell that the 50 inch has edge lit and the 55 inch has back lit. (The TV in the back is the 55 inch)

I've seen that video but there is nothing that proves the edge or back lit, except what the guy says in the background. In fact, I found the picture better on the first screen with more uniformity than on the one in the back, the 55 inch.

I'm looking for curved VA-panel with FALD and this quest seems to require deep espionage skills.
I'm starting to hate all TV makers for hiding simple technical specs.
What might be the curved model second column on the right?

    Hi

those are not a "real" FALD panels!

    its called PRO-LED tech

not full-array-led(or direct-led) and "Local-Dimming" system pseudo! just cheated customers
    and saying "Local-Dimming"!!

Those VA panels thru CMI/Taiwan and specs are good but not great!

MVA 8-bit>>> another cheat technic and come to 10-bit!

so never believe manufacturers some off techical infos++

also some off panels with "Direct-LED" only(its better than EDGE-LED)and there is no
LD Engine(or board) just pseudo LD or they say ulitimate/intellegent/pro/micro bla bla bla

    bye++

Maybe not great but the reviews they are getting this year say otherwise, As for the 10bit stuff, i can understand why Panasonic have chosen this route as it's much cheaper for now, Although the Cx900 may possibly be 10bit.
