Hi, just about to purchase my latest hc upgrade, a new house with a bigger room !!!, and would like to now know which 50'' displays are hitting all the right spots (been out of the forum scene for a while, so a little out of touch)

also, as i currently have a pioneer 433 mxe, this could soon be surplus to requirements, so what do you value this at,

Thanks in advance for any input.

If you have been out for a while you may have missed out about the importance (or lack of importance) of high definition. Most of the major players have either recently released, or are about to release, HDTV ready panels / TVs. If HDTV is important to you then you may be best to wait a month or so before buying a 50".

Presumably to either order one of the new HD 1080p 50" models, or take advantgage of the subsequent price drop in the current HD range when the latest models launch...

(DJ Blade - See my sig for my choice of the current gen 50"!)

In all likliehood probably worth more to you kept and installed in the bedroom!!!! Sorry I can't help with actual figures, but lack of HDCP will scare most 2nd hand buyers away.

Plasma of the moment for me is still deffo the Fuji. There will be the odd 1080p 50" offering later this year, although expect to pay twice as much as a 768p 50".

ok, the guy who's buying my house says the 1st thing he's going to buy is a plasma, as, in his words, mine looks DEAD RIGHT on the chimney breast, so, i was/still may offer it him (we move 3rd march) at its fair second hand value, inc of wall bracket, and componant cables (as they are INSTALLED) as this would save him a major job, the screen is perfect, and imo a super display (market leader at the time of purchase), the only reason why i'd consider selling is that the wife says the new house would be great with a new bigger plasma (lucky man aint i !!), i see no reason to updrade as i dont have hd or hdmi sources, but, as stated, could be a good time as the wifes guard is down, after all, shes got her new £160.000 house,

i also saw no need to move, as i was happy with my current house, after all, i've lived here 20yrs !!

So, iyho, whats it worth ??

Cost £3300.00 without bracket or the van damm componant cables.......

If you are lucky and its mint, somewhere between £500 & £600. If you can find a buyer that is.

In this age of cheap finance and HD, no-one wants to pay much for an old non-hd second hand plasma, regardless of how good it was back then. Those with knowledge buy a latest screen, those without go to dixons and get a new one on credit. I tried to sell my may 2003, £3200 hitachi 42pd3000 and the best offer I got was £250, including the £110 wall mount!

Try and flog it to the house buyer if you can.

I concur with poggs, I doubt you will find a buyer willing to pay much over £300 if you're lucky enough to find a buyer at all. Unfortunately time isnt an advantage to plasmas, and yours must be around 3 or 4 years old at least. I reckon you'll get much more for it by selling it with the house, as you can whack £500 onto the price of a house without the purchaser flinching as much as if it were £500 from nowhere.

Ok, the guy buying my house has bought the mxe off me, inc bracket, jtec scart/componant converter and the installed van damm componant and svhs cables (he was going to get a 32" LCD screen)

He intends to connect Sky/dvd/xbox, but he tells me he has some type of all in one jobby as source, and he *thinks* the dvd has componant out, if so, he's going to need some type of Switching

can you guys recommend owt half decent ???

i'll be offline from dinner time friday, until the 15th march, so speedy reply's please.

Also, please point me in the right direction of the 50" monitors you recommend......

i'm so busy packing, and the guy buying my house only let me know a few hours ago he wants the screen...

    Thanks to all in advance.......

As you obviously like Pioneer panels you might consider the new MXE 10/11 which are reputedly HDCP compliant. I think there are several threads about them here.
