I was in Currys and see they are doing a package of an LG 50" plasma (50PC56) with LG surround system (HT752) and a black glass stand all for £1499.00

The surround sound is in the shop for £299.

Does this sound like a good deal?

I'm a bit wary about buying a TV like this from the internet as returning it with a problem may be a right royal pain in the arse.

Any advise or comments would be welcome.

    Thanks,
    Ted.

well online you can find the samsung c/q 9* models for around £750 and up.

so your paying almost £600 for a samsung home cinema in a box and glass stand.

id say you could spend same money, get same panel and better sounds

    Currys online:

    £977 TV

    Dixons online:

    £270 Surround System

Would guess that a decent Black Glass stand could be had for £253 so not a great deal in my mind.

I see what you are saying.

It's more of a package than a deal then.

I'm also looking into getting a 50" plasma, and after reading this forum and magazines for the last few weeks i'm keeping clear of LG. Not that they are necessarily that bad, just never get as good reviews as Pioneer, Panasonic and Samsung.

Pioneer top, but way out of my price range, Panasonic next, but still can't justify paying the extra having seen it next to the Samsung, so probably the Samsung PS50C96, at about £900.

Just thought i would add my views, and now let everyone else dissagree ;)

Hi folks, first post here so be gentle :smashin:

Right, sorry to resurrect this post again. Tried to answer as manyquestions as I could off the search but still need a bit of help.

Also looking at this panel at the moment. Doesn't seem to bad considering what the player and the stand would cost separate.

Question is, would it be better not to be woo'ed by the package of the extra player and speakers?

I basically have around a grand, maybe slightly more to get a flat panel. Really I want a 50" screen. I was originally looking at the Samsung PS50Q97HDX: http://www.ajelectronics.co.uk/ViewProdDetails.asp?prod_code=PS50Q97HDX&Prod_name=Samsung%20PS50Q97HDX%20Plasma%20HD%20Ready%2050%20Inch&CAT_CODE=7

However was told by a fella in John Lewis this only runs at 50hz and would not support some 360/Ps3 games, so I've been a bit put off that. Also this one cannot receive 1080p and downscale like the LG?

Basically need advice as I'm not as confident buying LG as other brands. Also if this panel is chod, any recommendations of other better panels i could buy for the same money? I know I'm looking bottom end of the market with my budget.

Quite a lot to answer there. Any help would be appreciated asap, as the LG offer runs out on the 13th

    Cheers folks

The Samsung is not 100Hz. The LG is. Can't remember off the top of my head about the 1080p abilities of the Samsung. I thought it could take it TBH.

Current Currys deal is the TV for £999 with free HTK and stand.

    Normally:
    LG 50PC56 HD Ready Plasma - £1299
    LG 752(?) HTK - £299
    Serano SB1050 Stand - £199

    Total of £1800.

Yeah thats the deal I been looking at £999 all in.

Just if the panel is much kop. Is there many known problems with LG, or any particular reasons not to buy?

Is it worth a punt or should I but another option?

Have you played any 60hz games through it though.

Apparantly the samsung panels will not play the newer 60hz games?
