Almost ready to commit to spending a huge amount of money on a 50" plasma, but am not sure which manufacturer to go with.
Like most people it will be used mostly for Sky, DVD's and the occasional bash with the PS2.
I would like it to be HDTV ready as will not be purchasing another one for quite a while.
The choices are between Pioneer 505XDE and Panasonic's Viera.
    The Panasonic has a better resolution being 1329 x 870 against 1280 x 768.
Speakers that come with the screen will not be used as my 5.1 setup will be used at all times.
My current DVD player is Denon 2900 but am looking to upgrade to either 2910 or 3910 as both have a built in scaler which really improves picture on HD panels.
Can anyone give their views on either or both of these screens as they both have great reviews?????? PLEASE??????

    Just a small correction mate...the Panny has a resolution of 1366 x 768.

Have not seen either in action so can't really comment...best to go and see for yourself...the Panny should show better, deeper blacks, but at the the expense of fine details whereas the Pioneer should show all the fine detail but be lacking in the black level department.

The Pioneer is also more HDTV ready as it has a HDMI input which would work nicely with either of the Denons. The Panny does not have a digital input so you could not take advantage of the built-in scaling in the Denon's.

At the end of the day it's a personal choice and you'll find plenty of people here who rate both highly - normally the one they own.

    Cheers, Lee

They have great reviews cos the reviewer was unaware/didn't know how to get a picture/only used HDMI/ some other reason completely unconnected with advertising revenue. The 2910 scaler is not really likely to be that much of an iprovement on the scaler already built into a 4.5k plasma, after all, how much does it cost? You need to take yourself to a proper plasma dealer and get yourself some demos, like Pioneer 50MX and a Panasonic TH50PHD7 connected to a high definition scaler. The cost will be similar, results a revelation.
