Nearest will be the Pioneer, but personally, the extra cash required for my 50PV500 was well worth it. My 1st plasma was a Philips 42PF9966, but the PQ of the Pana PV500 range is just superb! And yes I have studied both the Pioneer AND Panasonic for days side by side........ 'Cos I work at Comet :D

Shop around, you can get one between £3500 and £3800.

Cheers, was really hoping you weren't going to say that though ;)

I can't go with the pioneer, as they all come with external tuners and the room is prewired for the plasma to be hung on a wall :-(

Panasonic PHD8 from MAW in the special offers section of this forum, or give Alastair from av-sales a PM and ask him his best price shipped on one.

So they were set up poorly being fed with a bad arial feed and annoying interference along with 20 other screens? Oh except for the 7 grand ones which have a decent HD demo playing through them :D

These TVs should be bigger sellers, why don't comet have proper demo rooms and set them up with their own signal input. If I based my Plasma buying on what i have seen in Comet, Curry's and Dixons, I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole.

Now the 15grand 60+" Sony I saw in Centrale in Croydon made my mouth water

The XDE's do but the FDE which I am told is the same screen, doesn't have the media box. In the 436 anyway, assume it is the same for the 50" ones

if its 50" plasma you are after then also have a look at the Philips 50PF7320 which is also an HD ready Plasma TV with integrated speakers and Free table top Stand.
Its priced at £2395.00 so should fit into your budget.

Alsternatively there is always the 50" Pioneer PDP-505XDE - one of the best plasma screens available in the market.

    hope the information is helpful.

THanks, i was looking at the Philips, but i think if i was to go for a philips i'd go for the one with pixelplus2, i think it's the 9967??

The pioneer would definetly be the best option for my budget but as i stated before i need one with an integrated tuner :(

Damon recons the 506FDE has integrated tuner but according to this http://www.pioneer.co.uk/uk/product_detail.jsp?product_id=11145&taxonomy_id=62-63 it doesn't look like it :(

Damon, i think the differences are that the XDE's have digital tuners and have pc inputs whereas the FDE's dont. They FDE's still seem to have seperate tuner box's though???

We have all the Hi Def sets running an Oyster box to HDMI splitter which feeds the sets a near hi def image, go take alook, no bad arial feeds etc for months m8y ;)

As for demo rooms, we used to have them in trial stores about 7 years ago, thing is they scared the 'average Comet' customer off, as they thought if we are only demo'ing these few TV's (in a special room), that something must be wrong with them, because we were giving them preference!!! :suicide:

Oh, and we don't do £7k plasmas ;)

Obviously the man has been in that many stores he cannot remember where he saw what - think the 7K one (LG) is in Currys - it does begin with a C though ;)

    I think you'll find 3999 euros = roughly £2800.
