Hi, I'm thinking of buying a lovely 42PD5300 (mainly for its low price and high resolution). I have a few questions...

    1) Will prices come down after Christmas? In other words, should I wait a little longer?

    2) Is it available in black? I really, really hate silver bezels.

    3) Can you take the speakers off? (I'll be buying a separate sound system.)

    4) Does it have a feature to put grey at the sides when you're watching 3:4, to reduce burn-in?

    5) How does the quality compare with the Sony KeP42M1? I really love the colour/contrast of this screen, but have never seen a 42PD5300 first hand.

    1. Prices are dropping all the time.
    2. No, it's not available in black. I would say it's more grey than silver.
    3. You don't take the speakers off. You fit them, so just don't fit them.
    4. Yes there is a feature to put grey at the sides.
    5. I don't know, I've never looked at the Sony.

I don't think you will be disappointed. It's a great looking TV, even when it's turned off :) Although I have a cinema amp, I fitted the speakers to mine, because my missus and I both thought it looked better with, and my missus likes to watch TV early in the morning through smaller speakers so she doesn't wake anyone else.

    Thanks, Nick.

I've just been into Comet, where they had the 32" version. It looked mind-blowingly beautiful! I'm talking mainly about the picture. I'm not keen on any bezel that isn't black (and preferably high gloss), and I think the Hitachi bezel is slightly cheap-looking (I mean relatively, for such an expensive piece of kit).

But the picture blew me away. I was getting really exciting thinking of one in my own living room — only 10 inches bigger! (That's 22cm wider and 12 cm taller, in my brain!)

I only have one further question: how noisy is the buzzing in silent conditions? I'm already talking about this issue in another thread, but I'm ordering it tonight so I'd like a really quick answer. (Plus I lose my Internet connection tomorrow evening as I'm moving house and won't be online again for 7-10 days!) :)

    Dizzy,

The buzzing varies from panel to panel. My first, a 42PD3000, buzzed so loud you could hear it over dialog. The replacement 5300 can be heard buzzing from around 2 feet away if there is no other noise in the room.

BTW, the screen is wall mounted but I don't know if this makes much difference.

    HTH

    John
