Just got back from my local Blockbuster, and they're doing various deals on their "pre-owned" titles, buy 2 get a 3rd free, etc. but the best deal is 5 for £35. (Not quite as good as the previous 5 for £25 and lately 5 for £30) Obviously it's popular, hence the price hike!

Got Walking Tall, The Grudge, The Forgotten, Species III (yeah ok, but I've got the first two!) and Spartan.

Loads of other stuff including two disc Incredibles, Shark Tale, Finding Neverland, The Notebook, Alfie (re-make), Saw, Resident Evil II, etc. some don't have extras on them (like Layer Cake is really light on them!).

Yep - basically Ex-Rentals. Some stuff is the same as retail though - depends on what you're after.

My local one usually adds stuff every Monday.

Blockbuster do interesting deals every now and then, but nothing to compare to their amazing March deal for The Incredibles. Exchange two sh*t DVDs (2 from Poundland) and £8.87 for a Collectors edition 2 Disc Special The Incedibles.

    Truly incredible!

I think that the 5 for 35 is a rip-off compared to previous offers. £7 for ex-rentals is too much. If you got any of the £4 Shrek/Shrek 2 disc sets from CDWOW, they trade in for £10 at Blockbuster (max of 2 trades at one time). I haven't checked out what the £2 Shrek 2 DVD yet but I imiagine it'll get £5/£6. So trade in 2 of the box sets and the 5 DVDs will only cost you £23...bargain!

I agree. I pay between £5 - £8 for brand new sealed films. Why would I pay £7 for a rental! :suicide:

The popularity of these deals seems to suggest the "man on the street" is willing to pay this much. I'd agree that in terms of what's discussed on this forum it's way off the pace!

Well if you are going for this offer don't get Layer Cake as you can get it new for the same price (£6.99) from www.101cd.com

Its true some of the films they have you can find cheaper from dvd soon or cdwow with vouchers. However i did manage to pick up Oldboy 2 disc edition and Infernal Affairs II along with three others as part of the 5 for £35 offer and £7 pound each for these is not bad.

to stand up for block busters ex rentals,
i would say if you catch the ex rentals when they come out
it will prob be another 2 months till the online price is comparable
eg when i went a week ago, shaolin soccer had just come out, that will be a while till it is available for 9 pounds or less

I was gonna get it but It's the excessively cut R2 version (84 mins) which is pretty crappy compared to the R0/R2/R3 version on CDWOW (or so I've heard :D )

Never had an ex rental or secondhand film from blockbusters that i've had to take back. If i did though, there year guarantee gives me a bit of piece of mind.

Are you sure about the year - the greasy, scratched coasters they sell to me as discs have anything from 4 weeks to 30 days to be returned? :thumbsdow

Staff tell me there is NO refund on "Preowned" - so a replacement is the only option.

Ebay often has sealed items at half blockbuster prices.

They are also doing 3 ex rentals for £10. I picked up Shaun of the Dead, Final Destination 2 and Spiderman 2. All the discs are scratch free for a change.

I also picked up a brand new copy of Underworld for £3.97.

First, you definitely get a one year refund guarentee in the UK (have taken disks a few months old back on a few occasions). The staff have never argued (at several London stores). One explained the one year guarentee again to me yesterday.

Second, the no refund is bull. Ask to speak to a manager and if that doesn't work get the number of a head office. They have refunded to me in full even on BOGOF offers (or buy none get one free).

I've bought hundreds of disks from them and had probs with about half a dozen. Many of the others were mint and far cheaper than EBAY. Just don't buy the very latest and ignore the buy 5 for 35 pounds offer if you want a bargain.

    Hope that helps.
