5.7/7.1

Hi all,
I am considering dropping 7.1 and going back to 5.1

The reason being this....
I presently have mission m7ds/m3ds rears. Whilst very good im buying a pair of kef q2ds to go on the sides. These should intergrate much better with my kef q7 and q9c up front.
Decided on this after hearing how much better ian.j's MK rears intergrated.
My sofa is up against the back wall and putting q2ds's on there will be impractical. I am considering the little surrounds kef do as c-backs but at this point im deciding if i want 7.1 at all.

So what im asking from you guys is suggestions of films/scenes to watch in 7.1 then 5.1 so i can decide if its all worth the extra.

Thanks

I find Attack of the clones DD 5.1 EX mix makes particular full use of the extended surround channels.

I have my sofa against the back wall with the rears about 3 feet above my head. Doesn't really dominate the sound field but does make for some impressive fly overs.

Hi barrie
Which speakers do you use on your back walls? The two sets of mds that i use atm do sound good but i just want to use KEF to get a better tonal match. I think the q2ds stick out way too far to have above your head. Also surely you cant use di-poles on a back wall ?

Hi Ridd

I use two sets of Mission M7DS for surrounds and Kef KHT 9000's on the front.
MCACC on my Pioneer does a good job of setting the front and surround speakers with similar tone using the Acoustic EQ.

Barrie,
I thought i read a post from you about buying kef rears.
Did you change your mind ? 2ds are very expensive compared to the missions i know.

Ridd, I was looking into a change of rears, but with a our house move getting closer (possibly next weekend) I have put it off for now.
Need to think about buying carpets and a cooker and other boring stuff!:(
