Since unfortunately my rear/surround speakers are not equi-distant from my ears  due to usual domestic considerations etc., is it reasonable to assume that all 5.1 surround amps allow left and right rear surround levels to be adjusted independently? I know the Marantz SR6300 does allow it, as Marantz are decent enough to allow you to download the manual from their web site ...

I have only setup Sherwood/Sony/Denon receivers, but all of these did allow you to adjust all channels independently. I would assume that the vast majority, if not all, would also allow this, but there nearly always seems to be an exception to a rule!

My Marantz SR4300 is sitting downstairs and is doing this right now, set the distance in 1foot/0.3metre intervals for all channels.
