I bought a Terratec 5.1 PCI recently on the premise that it was a 5.1 card with optical output. Somewhat pathetically, it's only 5.1 through the pre-outs and not through optical, where it is only even active on 2.0 mode.:thumbsdow

Terratec say they are not to blame as they do not say that it does (but I argue neither to they say it doesn't), and Dabs aren't interested because I had to open and power up the card to find out.

So now I have a soundcard that is bloody useless.

Can anyone recommend an sound card that will output the full DD/DTS stream in 5.1 through optical that doesn't cost a fortune?

or return it under the 7 day distance selling regulations.

Keep your soundcard, but use my drivers.
Wow, what a clever chap! That worked a treat. :)

Outputs great 5.1 EX in media center playing DVD's, but I have a few AVI's with 5.1 sound and they only give me DPLII. Is that normal? It's way better than I had though, and now I can enjoy DVD's and HD-DVD's in 5.1 again without resurrecting my old Harman Kardon. :)

Apparently Dabs say the distance selling regulations don't apply as I've opened and used it.

Dabs are feeding you a line, they know very well what the distance selling laws are.
You get to open it, to try it, and to return it without giving a reason.
