5.1 Speakers for flat with arcam280

Hello,
I'm pretty new at this at this as its my first proper setup, the room is about 13 by 15 feet and I will be using an arcam280 to power the speaker.
I live in a flat so want quality over loud and something that will sound great at low volumes. Music is more important than film, so about a 60/40 split seems about right.
If possible some front i can bi-wire, once i have a few systems which people know will work I will attempt to try and find a shop for a demo.
Well that's my shopping list I could stretch to 1k for the right system.
All advice welcome and appreciated

Have a look on the Arcam forum, there are many options for the 280 and your budget will determine the quality you'll get from your amp.

I can assure you it will be excellent!

Cheers,
Neil.

I run mine with B&W 600 series and am very happy with the sound....although having tried an AVR280 with Epos M series...WOW! They're on the shopping list. For 2 channel stereo I auditioned the M16i (which superfi are knocking out for about £700 at the moment....so may be a little overbudget when you throw in a centre (M8i) as well.

Is speaker size important?

Music will be a lot happier with 'proper' speakers... but if you need sub sats then things change.

I think with your budget you could far worse than looking at the XTZ power buy and buying from that - the reviews from Russ. Will suggest excellent things and you have a good quality amp to go with them, the subs are relatively untested so you may wish to get something like a BK XLS200

http://www.avforums.com/forums/speakers-power-buy-special-offers/835677-xtz-speakers-powerbuy.html

Otherwise the Wharefedale Diamond 9.1 system is excellent value for money or my favourite speakers heard to date (not heard the XTZ) on the end of an Arcam system are the Focal Chorus 700 series...

Front: 705V - £299
Centre: CC700V - £242
Rear: SR700V - £359
Sub: BK XLS200 - £289

Prices from here - you may get a deal buying the lot, and even consider the Focal sub: Focal J M Lab : Audio Destination, Devon's Audio Specialist

Does destroy the budget a little - maybe have 705v's as rears too but the SR700's are better for that task!

Many thanks for all the replies will be checking them out. Size is important but only really with rears. I thought that large speaker might be a bit much as the room is a fair size for me but not massive and I have neighbours above, below, left and right.

Are you single? Are any of the neighbours hot and single (last part optional but worth considering in flats)

It could work in your favour if you invite them round :D

I use larger speakers than those recommended in my other post and my room is 7.5ft x 15ft (sort of.. it's an open plan room with a large kitchen cupboard restricting it 7.5ft)
