My mate has been assured by a Sky technician (helpline) and an installation engineer (specialist, not a muppet sent from Sky themselves) that the Sony box can output a 5.1 signal. My friend is well up to speed on what he's talking about and has followed the whole Sony/Sky debacle since that box came out and said to both the engineer and the technician, that Sky themselves has ensured that the Sony box would not output a 5.1 signal, but both the engineer and the technician, insisted that it was possible and that the answer was to be found on the internet. My friend has the Sony amplifier and recently upgraded the software and we reckon, using a computer and a RS232/USB lead it can be done. The question now is, where on the net is the software??

Im sure the box could output 5.1, but if nothings being broadcast with 5.1, you aint gonna get it.
As far as I know, Sky only broadcast 5.1 to the Sky+ boxes.

Excellent thread Shawkins cheers. As far as we can ascertain the 760 (the newer box) has the digital output connection hardwired into the circuitry, so all it needs is a program to tell the sony box to output the signal it is receiving. Someone, somewhere has written a programme or nicked it from Sky. Certainly the comments of the two technicians certainly suggest this is the case. BUT WHERE??!!!
