Im about to move house and so will be getting sky installed once I move.

Is 5.1 sound only available on the sky+ boxes or is it available on any of the new 'standard' Sky Digital boxes.

    Many thanks.

As far as I can tell it is only on the Sky+ box. Sony STB has optical output but it seems it only ouputs standard stereo/Dolby Surround.

Only the movie channels are currently transmitting DD5.1.

BBC have said they are going to use 5.1 soon and some of their programming does have 5.1 sound tracks. Rumours are the ch4 group are looking into it although i have seen nothing official on that yet.

As has already been said, you need sky+.
