I'm signed up to 'sky world' and some of the movies are broadcast in 5.1 i believe.
I've got the Amstrad DRX 400 didi box, there is a cover on the back panel that says 'digital interface' that is screwed down.
The question is, how is it possible to get 5.1 from a digi box?
My Tosh 32ZP18Q has an optical socket and a coaxal socket.

    Best Regards
    Rich Tee.

Not familiar with the Amstrad box, but I know that the only box capable of transmitting in Dolby Digital 5.1 is the Pace Sky+ box. Even the Sony Digibox with an optical output cannot transmit a DD signal.

    Thanks Shawkins002

The Amstrad DRX 400 is the box supplied by Sky as part of the package I signed up for.
Prior to sky I had a telewest digital cable, but I got increasingly frustrated at the slowness if their interactive system.

I connected up the sky box to AV1 / RGB scart socket today and bought a Profigold scart lead.
I love the picture so much I might ask it to marry me.

Only the sky+ gives 5.1, I was told that the Sony boxes were designed to give 5.1 but that was stopped by sky they just do PCM now, cant blame them how else would Sky screw more money out of you? I have been told it is possible to modify the Sony boxes but it is a hardware (chipset) change so I did not ask any more questions.

You do still however have Dolby Surround Capability so if you have a Pro Logic 2 capable receiver you can still get a decent 5-channel effect.

Thanks for your advice, I thought Sky+ may be the answer.
Do you have to lay out more cash for the box even if you upgrade from Sky world.
I know Sky are the people to ask, but I hoped someone on here might know before getting trapped into a sales pitch over the phone, or listening to loads of phone options with cheesy music intervals.

    Thanks again.

If you only want the 5.1 and are not bothered about recording you can still get a sky+. Buy one secondhand and just replace your existing box, get the viewing card married to the sky+ and bobs yer uncle.

If you go through Sky you'll have to pay for the box (£199 is the average price) and pay for installation and then fork out an extra £10 a month to use the functions of the sky+

    Dave

Are you saying I need a different viewing card too?
If so don't I need it from Sky?
Surely my connection has to authorised by Sky too?

I wish life was more simpler, cavemen, spears and loosely clad women.

    Cheers
