    Hi,

I have an existing 6 channel audio source, I'm looking for an amp and speaker system, but don't need Dolby Digital decoding and all that.

Are there any "pure" amps at an affordable price?

    Thanks,
    Steve

Steve, Yamaha used to do these and also add on processors. However there are some great amps out there that have 5.1 (and more) inputs and DD decoder on board. This is to prepare the amps for DVD-A or SACD sources. General thinking (on this forum anyway) is that the DD and DTS decoders on amps are better than the ones in most DVD players.

Dolby Digital decoders are now so cheap that almost all a/v amps include them in the spec.

The day of the pro logic amp with six channel input is long gone
