Has anyone managed to buy any 4x DVD media - doesn't matter to me if its +RW or -RW. I've looked in all my usual places but none of them have ever stocked them. I asked SVP about it a few weeks ago and they said they'd never heared of 4x RW

Sorry I should have put RW in the title - if one of the mods could change the title to say "4x DVD RW media - where ?" it would make it clearer

Have you asked Sony UK? Someone there may be able to help. Finding the right part of Sony to ask may be a problem though :)

I've had a look on their on-line shopping but can't find any. I may email them - if I can find the right people to email ;)

I ordered 3 of the Philips 4x DVD+RW from cd-rmedia and they arrived the following day and work perfectly in my Sony DRU-510A - highly recommended :)

best & cheapest place I've found is
    http://www.dvd-and-media.com/default.htm

I just bought 20 ARITA 4x +R for about 89p each and have already used ARITA 2.4x +R and the CloneDisc +RW, both of which have worked fine (the +RW as both single written and formatted as a storage device with InCD)

    I have a SONY DRU500

Another thing that has struck me whilst looking through all these suppliers is that I've never seen any 4x DVD-RW disks, do these exist ?

I am pretty sure that rw media will only burn at half the max burn speed of your drive which for the sony is 2x :)

The plextor 4x -r / 8x +r drive is the only one that can burn +rw at 4x and thats if there are any discs out there!

with the release of the 510A model Sony has pushed the drive to the limits. This second generation release is speedier than its predecessor, not only being able to burn DVD-R and DVD+R at 4x but also DVD+RW/DVD-RW at 4x which is a first for the industry at the time this product was released.

    I just read this here

    http://www.explosivelabs.com/reviews/sony_dru510a/

so stand corrected by myself

Well, the DRU-510A box says it will burn DVD-RW media at 2x only. Only DVD+RW will burn at 4x.

There may be a firmware update that I am not aware of though.

I think maybe -rw is only at 2 speed at the moment. There has been a firmware update recently (510A_10d) but I'm not sure what this does. I've loaded it on mine with no problems.
